I was just diagnosed and now I am looking back... my Dr and I now see that I have had this for years.
PCOS symptoms started when I also started getting major panic attacks (the panic was out of the blue).
I am womdering if the two can go hand in hand?
I am weaning off lexapro (for anxiety) and my anxiety seems to be worse.... I am not so sure now that my anxiety can be controlled with th coping techniques I have learned.. I am wondering if it has to do with PCOS and all of my messed up hormones..
Blessings

I was always anxious, met made it worse. In fact yesterday I upped my dose to 1000g and I found it much harder to leave the house today. I never made it to my first class because I kept making excuses and eventually was too late to go.
When it first happened I didn't realise. Now I know the signs and I give myself a good talking to and force myself out the door and into the real world

I never had Panic Disorder UNTIL I developed PCOS when I turned 20 years old.
I mean in the past anxiety attacks were just that - anxiety attacks.
But when my PCOS developed, I devleoped Panic Disorder SO BAD that I actually had seizures. I'm talking irrational, intense fear, heartbeating 180bpm (shouldn't be higher than 100bpm) ......as a result of that I am now dependent on Xanax.
Thanks a lot, PCOS.
My fits of panic are at their worst upon wakening, which is when estrogen and testosterone is at their highest.

This is what happened in the beginning with me, I would wake up in the night with panic attacks and now it hs been in the mornings. I take 1/2 a klonopin before I get out of bed.

I have always been kind of an anxious/worrywart type.... when I got pregnant with my first child I started having really really bad anxiety and panic attacks. I think they must have been related to the pregnancy hormones or something because it went away soon after birth... I never got it with my second pregnancy.

when my shrink first put me on the Xanax everyday, I was all for it because it made me feel good whenever I had an anxiety attack-----and it also knocked my fits of panic out the window.
Good thing, right?
WRONG.
After my body became adjusted to the high concentrations of xanax everyday, my anxiety became tolerant to its effects. So, even when I take it, I have constant anxiety. the only thing it's still good for is an acute panic attack, and I have to double my dose when that happens.
On top of that, if I miss a dose, I go through what I'd like to call Heroin Withdrawals to the infinite power.
Additionally, after I became dependent on the Xanax, I developed longterm side effects such as tinnitus, severe vertigo, a constant sense of imbalance, tachycardia, chronically low blood pressure, nightmares, and how can I forget about epilepsy?
My seizure threshold is so low that I begin to seize even if I laugh a little too hard.
Do not allow yourself to become dependent on a benzodiazapine.

I'm soooo glad to see your post! I'm 27 & diagnosed PCOS when I was 15. About 5 years ago I decided to come off bc pills & try metformin. I was on Metfromin for 2 years. Last March I came off it after losing too much weight & after a week I suffered awful insomnia ( 12 months on I still take sleeping pills ) which I believe was tiggered by the drug withdrawal.
Well 6 month ago I started with heart palps, dizziness, breathlessness ( all anxiety symptoms) out of the blue. i am CONVINCED it is related to fluctuating hormnes but doc refused to send me to endocrinologist as said it can't be hormones causing it. I have suffered with anxiety sypmtoms every day now for half a year! It's awful on top my PCOS. I have changed docs who thinks there may be a link as I have been on no meds for over 12mths to balance my hormones. I am a firm believer that it is hormones to blame!!
I have had panic attacks in the past and now probably have more of just generalized anxiety disorder although I have never been on meds. I just wanted to say I have been swapping out all of my bad carbs for good carbs and drinking tons of water and since then I have felt sooooo much calmer. I wonder if those spikes in blood sugar were contributing to the panic. I am insulin resistant so I don't think my body can handle all that sugar anymore.
I feel totally the same way. Especially in the past couple months, when symptoms have gotten worse, the anxiety has gotten really bad at times. It seems like my ability to cope with the simplest things is nonexistent lately.
I am not sure if its related as well but I have do have panic attacks and sometimes I have anxiety attacks. I dont have them often because I am able to control them better now but that is an interesting question.
