I have a question about excessive hair. I have a little hair on my chin, below my belly button and Im noticing an increase in hair on my forearms. I know that my testosterone in the past has been slightly elevated. My question is this: If my testosterone level normalizes...will the hair ever lessen? Can it ever be reversed, meaning will it ever go back to what it was before or once it has grown is it permanent?
Much to my chagrin, both my docs and my electrologist who I loved told me that once the hairs "convert" there was no converting them back just using hormones.
In other words, if excess testosterone made a hair follicle become dark and coarse, it would remain that way even if testosterone levels went down.
The same I believe is true for hair loss due to extra testosterone...It stays gone.
There are things you can do to make your hairs finer. Waxing over time will do it, laser hair removal will thin it out and so will electrolysis. If your testosterone levels are down, the hair will not regrow thick and after a few treatments will not grow back at all. REducing the testosterone (or at least balancing it) will also keep more hairs from turning traitor on you
Unfortunately, I don't think theres anyway to revert back to being hairless once it's appeared. Sometimes medications help to even out the hormonal imbalance and help to lessen the appearance but I don't believe it will ever just go away. Electrolysis and laser treatments are used for permanent removal of the unwanted hair. Otherwise you can do what many others do like wax, shave, tweeze, etc. Good luck!

I asked this same question a while ago and received mixed results. There are definitely some people out there who found that when their testosterone levels dropped their hirsutism returned to normal hair growth without the help of laser or electrolysis - though it seems these cases seem to be fairly few and far between.
My hormones are slightly balancing out and while my hirsutism's still being a pain, new hair has started filling back in at my temples (and the only thing I'm doing is taking BCP, Vitamin B and doing regular exercise)

I am on bcp and androcur 10 days a month , i am going to take only 5 pills of androcur starting from next month because my unwanted hair stopped growing and my acne has disappeared. So yeah you can reverse hirsutism that's the second time i am on androcur...my first doc told me i had not pcos and took me off it and only off the bcp i was diagniosed. of course if you want to see the result you have first to wax the unwanted hair one or two times before it disappear sometimes more depending...but dont expect great result before three month, i had great result after one mont but it's because this pill work for me...of course off androcure or anti andrigen you will go back to what it was before but it can be very progressive, when i am just on the pill i just have a few hair on my chin.Thn maybe you can consider having a good diet before getting off med andthis could help manage your hormone some girls have great results.
Androcur sounds really interesting. You take it only 5 days a month and it makes everything stop? I tend to tolerate medications really well, but of course everything has it's side effects. Thanks for sharing it with us! I go to the doctor on Friday and will have to mention it!

It all depends how far the process has progressed. If the testosterone has had a long time to work its effects, then the masculinizing effects are likely to be permanent, but if it's just a recent-onset increase in testosterone there's a very good chance it may be largely or completely reversed. If the hair growth on your chin is soft, fine and colorless, then there's every chance it can be reversed if you get your hormones into the normal female range.
