Question Can of soda and cake mix???

At my weight watchers meeting they were talking about this "new" thing.
Take a can of diet soda and mix it with a box cake, then bake .
When cooled it can be topped with cool whip of what ever.

Supposedly it tastes good.

Anyone done this before? I am going to give it a try this week.

It'll depend on the box cake, but most likely it will be yum.
I love lemonade scones. <3

I've done this before!!!! It works great for cupcakes, didn't work so hot for a whole cake. Tasted great though! I used diet coke for chocolate cupcakes (or any dark pop) and deit mt. dew for yellow cupcakes. Everyone at work loved them

I am going to put the mixture into two small pans and make a double layer with cool whip and make a strawberry compote with crushes strawberries and splenda. I give it a try and see how it goes.

I have done this quite a few times and everyone's loved it. I use the chocolate cake mix, 1 egg white (I think it makes the ckae more fluffy) and 1 diet coke. For the "frosting" I mix sugar free/fat free white chocolate instant pudding and poke holes in the cake and pour it on top and then put cool whip on top of that. Enjoy!

I've made it... It's definitely not a "new" thing... I think I first did it about seven years ago LOL.

I think orange pop in white cake is good! Yummy!

Today, I made lemon cupcakes using diet 7UP. Instead of frosting, I baked a little coconut on top. Delicious! Very yummy...which is kind of bad because I ended up splurgring and ate three

I've heard of making a cake this way before, but haven't tried making one yet. After reading all of these responses, I'm definitely going to be making one soon!

so the soda replaces everything (butter, eggs, oil, water)? do you need to adjust baking times b/c of it?

I read this post earlier today and had to try it. My cake came out of the oven not more than 5 minutes ago, and it looks normal. All I did was mix the cake mix and a can of diet coke in my Kitchen Aid mixer, put in a glass baking dish, and baked it for 35 mins at 350....

OK... I am utterly horrified that this is a recommendation by a supposedly reputable weight loss program. Now, I realize that we all need to tame a sweet tooth now and then... but I would much rather do it with quality food! How about some real Chocolate... something that is at least 70% and offers anti oxidants... not chocolate flavored sugar.

Diet soda - pretty much chemicals... Boxed cake (and Yeah, I like it as much as the next person...) But boxed chemicals... and cool whip (and I really like that crap too) hydrogenated oil... There is NOTHING healthy about this.

I think I'm bothered by the fact that here are people that are trying really hard to lose weight, and all the suggestions are how to keep eating crap, on some sort of point system. Is just losing weight the only goal? Or is there any goal to giving your body nutrition. I really think we see a lot of medical problems now a days because we are constantly plying our bodies with things that don't translate into "food". Our bodies don't know what to do with this kind of stuff.

Oh, please don't take this as a personal attack. It's not meant to be. I'm hoping that this is just a random treat... (dare I say that one of my favorites was a lemon cake, poke holes in it, and pour hot liquid orange jello into it... let it "set"... and OMG... YUM! But on the "nutritional side of things" Really, that could not be more gross.)

If we put something other than gasoline into a car, it quits working. The end. The engine is totally messed up. Why do we treat our bodies with less respect than a car. (and trust me... I'm just as guilty as the next person.)
