It is a potassium sparing diuretic that was originally used to treat high blood pressure and MAYBE congestive heart failure - I think i read that once.

What is does is blocks the effect of androgens on the body, reducing androgen related problems such as acne, hair loss, and excess hair. I have heard say that it actually keeps the ovary from producing androgens, and prevents testosterone from being converted to DHT, which is the form it has to be in to cause all the problems it causes.

It helps a lot of women with the excess hair, acne, and hair loss. However like any drug there is a risk of side effects. It can cause irregular bleeding, and it can also cause birth defects. A lot of women take birth control pills while on spiro to combat these two problems.

Hello

I've been on Spiro about 18 months, and my hair has got a bit less, but it's still there.
