I've tried several times to take the 1500 mg./day that my dr. has prescribed...but I throw up every freakin time! I'm perfect on 1000mg. absolutely no side effects. Does anyone have this problem? Any suggestions to help me up my dose?
Are you taking 500 mgs at a time? A pill with each meal? If it were me, i have high readings in the morning and i take a higher dose in the am. For instance 1000 in am and 500 with supper.

Be sure you're taking it with a meal or a large glass of milk. Also if your diet has excess fat/sugar it will make you more sick from it. Eat whole grains and lots of veggies. Limit fried foods or anything greasy.
Space out your doses as far as possible. I usually take 1000mg around 8am and the other 1000mg around 8pm or later.
For me it was weird... I had all side effects on 1000mg but as SOON as I doubled the dose to 2000mg a day, my major symptoms vanished. Madness, I know...

It's really important to up your dosage very slowly in order to give your body time to adjust. I started out with 250 mg for about a week, then upped it to 500; stayed at 500 for about 2 weeks before upping to 750, then 1000, then 1250 and so forth. I went all the way up to 2000 mg, which is amazing because 250 mg made me queasy at first! Try going slower, and bump up by 250 mg instead of 500. Just get a pill cutter. Good luck!

My dr wanted me to increase to 2000 mg of glumetza a day and my body can only tolerate 1500 mg a day. Also, the only way that I can take 1500 is at night before I go to bed. For some reason, it doesn't bother my stomach while I am sleeping, but if I don't get very much sleep and take the glumetza I am sick the next day. Good luck!!!
I am currently on 1000mg of Met XR taken straight after dinner.
I am a little bit scared to go up again as I when i did a few weeks ago i was feeling nauseas .. I had other issue then that has cleared up again so it might not be bad this time.. might try going up on Wednesday to 1500mgs after dinner and see how I go.
Are you taking any other pills? I know that when I was first starting Met I was also taking BCPs. I took them both at the same time (easier to remember to take pills at one time during the day). But each night I'd get so sick. so my doctor suggested taking BCPs at one point, and Met at another. So I started my BCPs in the morning and Met at night and I was fine.

I was in the same boat as you.I could never get passed 1000mg from the start,I was always barfing Yuck! I just upped my dose to 1500mg last month, with no bad s/e.The trick for me was waiting a couple of months to up it.I don't know if you want to wait a couple of months but it defentily worked for me.Also,I find taking it with a high protien meal works.
The best of luck to you!

hi. i ve been on Met at 1500 mg/day for 3 months and just switching down to 1000mg/day because of the side effects and there not getting any better as in going away at all, so i called my docs office yesterday and she said to go down to 1000 mg/day and i asked if there was a diff medicine otherwise she could put me on and she said no, Metformin was the only one, besides Serogant and Invitro. So, today i am upset still about this.
