Can't predict my ovulation

We've been TTC for 9 months now. I started metformin 4 months ago, did one round of clomid 50 which failed, then did clomid 100 mg. My BBT did not change (stayed flat), I had no cervical mucus at all, and I did not have any ovulatory pain. So I assumed that I had not ovulated again, but my ultrasound showed that I had ovulated. My P4 level confirmed that I did. Has anyone else had this happen?

Also, how long after taking clomid did you ovulate? I ovulated 3 days after the last pill, which RE didn't expect so soon. I just feel so confused and frustrated! And my well-meaning friends are driving me crazy with their advice such as if I stop stressing about it, it will happen...

Just out of curiosity, how many cysts does everyone else have? My RE estimates mine to be around 80-90 per ovary each ultrasound. That just seems like a ton.

first, i had about 40 cysts in each, but after 6 months of metformin i didn't have any.

second, how are you temping? when do you take your temp? is it the same time every day and you don't get up first, etc? also, does clomid make your earlier temps erratic? i know it did mine.

since 100mg worked, and you o'd 3 days later, i would start BDing halfway through taking the clomid. i also didn't have a lot of cervical mucus and used pre-seed, you can order it online.

Thanks for the response- I've been pretty close to the same time every day when I take my temp but I do think the clomid made it higher while I was on it. I reach over to my nightstand and take my temp before I do anything else. That's why I felt so frustrated when it didn't show I O'ed.
This seems like a lot of work, but I know it will be worth it when I finally get that BFP. I'm so glad to have others to talk to about everything, I never think of all of my questions while I'm in the RE office. And congrats on the pregnancy!!!

i temped for 9 months at least before getting my BFP and didn't O for about 6 of those months, so i know the frustration. however, when i was on clomid, it screwed up my temps so much that the rise would have been difficult to see if i had O'd within a few days - i usually O'd about 5 days later so it made it a bit easier.

You should not test for ovulation until 3-4 days AFTER taking your last clomid tablet or you are at risk of getting a false positive, Wait until cd12 and try testing then right through. I did that and discovered I am ovulating on cd18. Maybe you had a false positive and ovulated later on?

i don't think knighad was using OPK's - i think her dr tested her? am i right? Evah is right that you (or all of us with PCOS) can get a false positive on OPK's. i always had a line on mine due to high LH.

OPK's work for me, but you need to make sure you aren't reading them like pregnancy tests... you can have two lines, but its not positive unless your line is as Dark or darker than the control line. (however, for me, I find watching my cervical fluid is easier and more accurate for me anyway)

OPKs work for me too. But I am quite convinced I dont pop out an egg until about 3 days after I get the positive - despite the instructions assuring me that it is only 24 hours later max.
Very frustrating as I think I have missed this month and I was feeling so hopeful.
Ah well - maybe next month eh?

OPKs worked for me too - but i definitely had false positives and kept checking everyday instead of stopping like the box said, too. i'm really glad temping worked for me, because that's really why i knew when to stop BD'ing.

I haven't been doing OPK's. I go in on Day 13 and my RE does a pelvic ultrasound to check for ovulation. So we know I ovulated on Day 12 based on that and my prog level. I certainly didn't expect it so early, and he was surprised too! I can see what you're saying about the clomid interferring with the BBT. My temp was already elevated when I O'ed. Thanks for all of the advice!!

I would suggest that you start BD earlier like someone else on the board said!

Also, Don't use just any lube, it can block the sperm. You should really use preseed it is the only lube that can really imitate your cervical mucus. I have read the best practices for BD were to do it every other night and near bed time and lay on your back afterwards for 15-20 min allowing the sperm to let gravity help it.
