Default can u freeze cream cheese?

Does anyone know if cream cheese can be frozen? Our local grocery store has it on sale for .88 and id like to stock up if possible.Also how long does cream cheese stay fresh in the fridge?

If I remember correctly you cannot freeze cream cheese... I've done it before and I don't really remember why you can't I just remember we ended up throwing it all away. I think maybe it changes the texture?!?

I buy it on sale and freeze it without any ill effect. My mother always did, too. I've never noticed any difference when thawing it and using it.

I've frozen mine with no problems. I use it (after it's frozen and thawed) for warm dips, casseroles, etc, but not for cold dips or spreading on crackers, bagels or muffins.

If unopened, it stays fresh for months in the fridge. Not to be disgusting, but I've used cream cheese that had been expired for months and it's perfectly fine. Once it's open, it gets furry pretty quickly.
