yep i believe you can.

tons of ladies take provera to bring on af and then go on to ttc w/o clomid.

additionally i took prometrium (natural progestorne which is basically provera) and I just ovulated (this is the cycle immediately after the prometrium).

Your body COULD ovulate after Provera but it wouldn't be BECAUSE of the Provera. Provera will just make you bleed, it doesn't make you ovulate. Not to say that you can but it would be your body doing it, not the Provera. And it would likely be after the provera and your bleed are over.

Hope that makes sense.

Provera and prometrium are basically the same thing, but prometrium is a natural form. They are progesterone. You take it for 10 days or so and the progesterone builds up your lining and once you stop, the drop in progesterone cause you to shed your lining and bleed. For some, it will kick things in gear and cause you to continue to have af's. That is why some have concieved the cycles following it. It will not make you ovulate during the cycle you are taking it. There are some who claim it can make you ovulate during the cycle you take it but my Dr's say that is not possible. In those cases they say ovulation occured right before the provera/prometrium is started.

I used Provera before conceiving both of my children. My cycles were out of whack and both times I was able to conceive the cycle after taking the Provera with no other medication.

Good luck!

ladies,
you seen to know a lot about Provera, and I'm not that good but I have some questions for you...
My Re gave me provera for a cycle of 3 months, like you explain it was awsome inducing AF every month. Well on june I didn't take it to see if I could ovulate and conceive (I'm currently on Met 1500mg), well no AF on sight and 1 BFN on friday 6/29...
What should I do? I have to start provera on 6/13, should I take it now to induce AF or should I wait another wk and test again?

Thanks!

Provera can actually make you ovulate. It is rare but my Gracie is a living example of this. I hadn't had a cycle in 50 days, went to the OBGYN, they gave me provera to induce AF. Two weeks later I hadn't gotten AF so I took an HPT and it was ++++. I went to the OBGYN and they couldn't find the baby on u/s.(because I was only 3 weeks pregnant) They did a week later. We figured out that I o'ed after a couple pills of provera. It could be a coincidence, but my RE has heard of this too.

Not trying to get any hopes up. I have taken Provera many times and didn't ovulate. It was just the one time. (but once was enough :-)
