Default Can you adopt while TTC?

I heard that you can not be doing fertility treatments while going through the adoption process? Is this true?

No, its not true...

I think the reason for people saying this is they like you to have dealt with your infertility issues and grieved if need be and are completely ready to move on with a different chapter in your life.

Another reason would be if you are involved in International Adoption and become PG and are required to travel to that country to pick up your child are you going to want to risk that ?

Our SW told us (since we werent preventing) to tell her only after we had passed the 3 month mark since she had had couples who had told her and she had put the adoption on hold only then they m/c

Best bet is to check with your SW or agency and see what their rules are on it....
but for the most part they cannot prevent you (obviously) from TTC

HTH,
Amy

Some agencies don't let you TTC while adopting. Check with the agency that you will be working with. Some make you have notes/letters from your doctor saying that you can't be PG.

This is for agencies that deal only in newborns. I think they do it do only people who can't have a child on their own get a chance to have one.

Every agency and program has specific requirements. Some do specify that you will agree to not pursue medical fertility treatments during your homestudy and adoption. Some do not have a requirement either way. If it happens, it happens, and usually they will not penazlie. I have a friend who became pg while adopting from Guatemala and her babies are 4 months apart. You should have heard some of the things people asked/said seeing her visibly pregnant with another newborn in tow.

Don't let that stop you from going with a program, as adoption for most people is as emotionally exchausting as TTC. So I think it's a wise guideline, as well as to have the couple emotionally where they need to be for the adoption.

Good luck!

You can be TTC. Our agency made us get a doctors note addressing my infertility though.

But in my personal opinion why would you want to keep TTC? In my opinion your still holding on to "biological is better" and then if I don't get pregnant my consolation prize will be ready for us.

I know that's a very cynical view point. I know I will probably offend people for saying so...but it's just something that I don't believe in.
