Default can you get progesterone from your GP??

Hi ladies
I was wondering if any of you could help me, i recently had some blood tests (again!) and they show that i have very low progesterone levels. (prob the reason i dont have periods or ovulate naturally) I have been looking into natural progesterone cream, this sounds like it might help me but dont really know where to go from here..

My question is does anyone know if i can get it from my gp? Has anyone tried or got it from their gp?

Thanks in advance x

It depends whether your GP supports natural therapies, most GPs will give you a synthetic progestin such as Provera. However I have found out that these progestins make insulin resistance worse which is bad news for PCOS. You can however find suppliers on the internet but make sure you check the strength of it. There is a very helpful article in the Newbie's road map section

I have ordered some from Wellsprings in the UK so i will let you know how I get on.

I miscarried back in June and as we are ttc again i asked my specialist if he would prescribe some progesterone if i got pregnant again, just to help me feel at ease, knowing id be doing everything i could, he said no they wouldnt as they didnt prescribe that, they dont think it works and basically i had no chance,, im so upset as i want to give it a go as it has helped SO MANY people i know sustain a pregnancy!
I have ordered some cream, but idoubt that will be as effective as the tablets. Im hoping i get a bfp and it sticks but i know if it doesnt i will blame the specialst who treated me like an idiot!!!
The only other thing i can do is order some from abroad!!!!!

Good luck and ihope you have more luck form your doctor than i did with mine!!!!

Hey Sweetie really sorry you have had a miscarriage ,I personally know how that feels it is devistating. I am lucky that I have my 2 boys and I thank god every day for that fact.In between having my sons I had 2 miscarriages (at which point I hadn't been diagnosed pcos)but, the docs are very clinical and in some cases bloody cold towards how we are feeling!!!!!!!! All we ask is that they listen to us , is that too much to ask??? Here I go on a rant again ......... How many times have you been in the chemist to pick up a prescription and you've seen a drug addict getting preferential treatment and we get knocked aside so they can get thier methadone. I dont personally have anything against people who are addicted to drugs but , WE ALL HAVE A CONDITION THAT IS NOT SELF INFLICTED ,I think the nhs should be doing more to help us all get the meds we need to achieve a normal lifestyle , less pain , the ability to concieve and function as normal women do . I wish you and all the other women on here who are ttc , the very best of luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Magz xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello, I was just wondering if any of you finally had any luck being prescribed non-synthetic progesterone on the NHS?

I too ended buying some online from abroad but going forward would really like to get it on the NHS. My GP said Provera was safe to take until 12 weeks pregnant but I don't think that is true based on everything else I have read. I am not pregnant yet but would need it for low progesterone levels after ovulation.
Thank you, Maria
