Default Can you get your period while you're still miscarrying?

I know I sound like an idiot for asking this.

It has been 4 weeks and 2 days since we saw the heartbeat. And 3 weeks and 5 days since we saw the non-heartbeat. So for the sake of argument let's say the baby died 4 weeks ago.

We induced the miscarriage with cytotec the day we saw no heartbeat. I bled pretty heavy for a week and have been bleeding pretty lightly ever since then. Haven't needed a pad but blood on the tp, clots in the toilet.

Today the bleeding has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY heavier. I definately need a pad now. There's no cramping or anything, just this heavier flow. And - tmi - it smells like menstruation. It's really hot here today and I feel like I have that sweaty-on-my-period smell down yonder which is different from how it's been the last few weeks - really hasn't been a noticable smell.

Essentially, it is 4 weeks since the loss. My betas were 380 on Monday. Obviously this can't be an ovulatory period but it seems like a period! Anyone have this before? Maybe it wouldn't seem so odd it it weren't for the fact that I'd never stopped bleeding in the first place. How could my body be building a lining up even as it was shedding it??

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure. I'm gonna take a stab at this, though.

I don't think that this is AF. From what I understand, AF is cued by hormones, and if your HCG is still up, I think it's safe to bet that your body hasn't even created a new lining to shed yet.

I can't tell you how many times my bleeding tricked me and LOOKED like it was over (or got really, really light) then came gushing back. For the most part, it was just bright red blood. Then it went away, and THEN it came back (grrrr) but it's not so much blood-blood anymore. It looks like AF (kinda mucousy mixed in with the blood) and smells like AF. I know exactly what you mean by that.

After my natural m/c, my OB said it could be 4 - 6 weeks before I get AF AFTER the m/c bleeding stops.

I wish I could tell you for certain, but based on lots of different things I know (and have experienced), I think it's just more of the m/c bleeding.

*HUGS*

Well I am comforted to hear that at least one other person has had the stop and start thing... and knows what I mean by the smell!!!

It's just the timing of this is so weird. Makes me wonder if maybe I will have normal cycles for a bit now. Yeah... right! Probably just a weird resumption of flow.

My husband says "Maybe that thing that came out on Sunday was like some kind of plug." Somehow... well, I don't know. Who knows?

*HUGS* Don't worry, it WILL be over. Mine FINALLY looks like it's actually stopping for real. That will mean 17 straight days of bleeding for this girl. I won't get my hopes up too high until I go 24 hours without even spotting.

That thing that came out could very well be a really weird clot. I had one, but it looked more like a grape that had been smashed flat.

Eeww the gross things that bond us.

Nah, this thing was definately not a clot. It was much too solid for that. Plus had the other tissue stuck to it.

Today I am back to no bleeding. Maybe yesterday's gusher was the uterine equivalant of the final burst of speed before the finish line.
