Question can you have PCOS in just one ovary?

I prolly shoulda posted this in newbies but saw more were viewing here.

Just diagnosed with PCOS via ultrasound only. saw the string of pearls cysts. No other symptoms or signs. Blood work is fine.

I have severe endometriosis and severe lyme disease so I have lots of symptoms, but none particular to PCOS.

I have lots of questions but will start with just a few:

Can you be definatively diagnosed with PCOS by just ultrasound image of several cysts being the same size?

Can you have PCOS cysts in just one ovary?

Is there a link between endo and PCOS?

What do you do if you have no other symptoms of PCOS besides having the cysts?

Thank you all for you expertise!

You can have cyctic ovaries and not have PCOS. You can also have PCOS and only have one cyctic ovary. I have a prominate cyctic ovary over the two. I dont know if there is a link between endo and pcos? I do know that both can run in the family.

Most likely if you have had the blood test and all is ok and you have no other symptoms of pcos then you might just have cystic ovaries.

If that's the case, you probably don't have PCOS (but DO check with a doctor - I'm not a physician)

Polycystic Ovaries is not the same condition as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

I agree with the others, if your bloodwork and everything else came back fine, then it might be PCO and not PCOS.

I only have one cystic ovary, which is my left one. It is larger then the right one and it has cysts in it. My right one is normal sized and cyst free. However I do have PCOS. I have most of the PCOS symptoms, and my bloodwork confirmed it. So yes, it is possible to have PCOS and only one cystic ovary.

Yep me too -mild cysts only on the left ovary - right is all clear. Didnt ovulate for years and have many of the symptoms. This condition makes no sense!

Strange?!I am left ovary prominant!!! God Awful pain most all the time. Seem like it aches for days until the cyst reptures and I feel every bit of it! Is there a common thread with one ovary i.e left more than right?

Thumbs down thanx!

Thanx for all your replies!

I was given some info from the MIS-diagnosing doc. He handed me a 16 page printout and said---look at this, you will see just with the ultrasound and no other symptoms or signs, you fit the criteria for PCOS....it has changed quite a bit in the last few years.

I looked and within the first 2 pages it CLEARLY states that I am NOT to be considered as having PCOS. On top of not meeting the Rotterdam criteria set in 2003, the info packet also stated:

Women with the ultrasound appearance of PCO in the absence of oligo/amenorrhea or hyperangrodgenism should not be considered to have PCOS.

I have never missed a period or had any strange timing to my periods. I have tested WELL within the norm of androgens.

I will bring this to his attention during my post op appointment in 2 weeks. I just my other ovary removed by him.

again, thank you all, hope you find the above info of interest,
