Default Can you have period without ovulation?

Hi!

I'm a little confused- I read in another post that someone was saying she cycles every month but only ovulated twice last year....How does that work? I was under the impression that unless the cycle is induced by meds, you must have ovulated to get af. True? Not true? I'm confused!

But I have to post this because I am just so excited- I just got my period today! For the first time (without meds) since FEBRUARY!! And I had some ovarian pain a few weeks ago, so I was pretty sure I ovulated.

Thanks!

Right...women can have anovulatory cycles.

You can check your BBT and CM (or even use OPKs) to determine if you are ovulating.

Hope this helps.

I'm going to have to do research to figure out what BBT, CM and OPK's are, but I'm very curious about this also.

Also, my OB said that if the endometrium gets too thick (after going a while without AF), your body can't maintain and it will flush out even without the post-O progesterone levels.

It IS possible to have a period without ovulating.

For a good year and a half before officially being dianosed with PCOS, and before any meds, my cycles were VERY regular (28-30 days). When I had my hormones checked, I had a period as normal, but the results indicated that I did NOT ovulate.

If you ovulate you will get your period within 1-3 weeks (unless you are pg), however you can get your period without ovulating.. I think that's the way it works.

You should read the book.. Taking Charge of Your Fertility... it addresses this issue among many others.

When I was dx'd with pcos, I thought I had 'never missed a cycle', but turns out I wasn't ovulating, and hadn't for many, many months - as evidenced by the 'string of pearls' on my ovaries.
