I am on Yasmin and my hubby is coming home on leave (air force) next weekend for 4 days. And dern it if it is not right in the middle of my cycle. My sister said you can skip a month but I want to just double check.
Thanks for any input!

Is Yasmin monophasiac or triphasiac? You can skip months on pills that are monophasiac, meaning you take the same dosage everyday of the cycle. You just continue taking them. With triphasiac pills you can still do it but you may run into spotting problems. Since the first week dosage of the cycles pills is lower in horomone level, it usually triggers the spotting or a light period. As far as I know there is no problems with continually taking it and not having the 7 day off period. I'm guilty of doing it myself more than once. I just try and not make a habit of it.
Generally, as long as you have a period every 3 months, you are okay. I did this over my wedding with triphasic pills, and I didn't have any problems. Just skip the placebo week & start on the next pack.
I'm confused about you saying he's coming in the middle of your cycle. Are you one of those people who calls a period a cycle... or do you mean the middle of the WHOLE cycle, ie day 14, when you might be ovulating if you weren't on BCPs?
If you are hoping to skip the bleed week - yes you can just keep taking the active pills. You might get breakthrough bleeding anyway... or you might not. You can do 3 packs straight (9 weeks of active pills) with no consequences, 4 periods a year will keep you protected from the endometrial cancer risk...
If you are hoping to skip the entire month of pills in hopes of getting pregnant, it's a toss up what will happen. Some women get pregnant right away off the pill, some go months before they start ovulating again.

What Nimue said is very important: it depends on what type of pills you're on. The best thing to, since this is your first time wanting to skip, is double-check with your doctor. I've done it a couple of times and checked with my doctor before the first one to make sure that it was safe and that my particular pill was the right kind.

Yasmin is one of the ones it's OK to do this with. It's a monophasic pill. I am wrapping up my 9th week on Yasmin right now... I have had a fair bit of breakthrough bleeding but this doesn't happen to everyone when they stay on BCPs that long. But the ones that are packaged to be taken that way (Seasonale, I think?) caution that you may be more likely to have breakthrough bleeding on these long regimines but that this will likely diminish over time.

I have a question for those of you who only let yourself get your period once every 3 months...
Do you have much heavier bleeding and clots when you skip it for so long? Also do you have worse cramps? I have never heard of doing that, but wow, what a fantastic idea. I have heard of Seasonale and wondered how it worked.
I was thinking about skipping a month to see if it helped with my feeling sick all the time. I figure its either the birth control pills or my anti depresant and I want to get rid of whichever one it is.
My RE has me skipping the 4th week to keep endometriosis at bay. I'm on Mircette. She said BCP's keep the uterine lining very thin and therefore, not increasing your risk of cancer. That's why it is okay to do this on BCP's, but it's not okay for us as PCOSers to miss periods.
PCOS Dx in 1991, no treatment
9/03 started 1000mg Glucophage XR
1/22/04 Increased to 1500mg Glucophage XR
3/05 Reluctantly started Mircette to stop a 4 month AF
5/23/05 Laparoscopy done - Diagnosed with Endometriosis
Current Meds: 1500mg of Metformin ER, Mircette BCP(continuously, not taking the 4th week) & Lexapro 10mg
