Can you take alpha lipoic acid and metformin at the same time?

I read on another post that is works like metformin. I looked it up and it sounds interesting. Anyone else take it?

What is this one supposed to do?

I got the alpha at walmart. It wasn't all that much. I am going to start taking it today. I will let you know if I have any success with it.
