hi everyone i could really use some advice..... ooooooookay long story short.... i am not married yet..but bf and i are sexually active and we use condoms or diaphrams...well its killing me and killing our sex life...no joke every single time i use a condom or diaphram ..... i get raging yeast infections or bacterial infections!!!! and its not just that but it kills spontanaety and makes my bf's hoohoo go shrinky dinky sometimes...
i do not have kids yet so getting an iud can be risky. in the past bcps make me bleed nonstop and since getting dxd with pcos..have read bcps make ir worse....
so............... if you just cant use condoms or diaphrams..(and aside from not having sex lol) what would you try if you were in my situtation...bcps or iud???
funny thing is i dont even know if i am fertile..i am going to talk to my dr on thursday..we want to get married and have me finish school which will take a few years..yet at my age i dont want to put off having kids for toooo long if my fertility is in fact wavering...yet....as much as i want a kid.... i want to be married first...blaaahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i dont know what to do...
my hoo hoo has been through sooooo much and it would just be soo nice to have sex..and not get an infection..yet i am worried that bcps would make me sick..and or that an iud might have the possibility of making me have even more trouble conceiving if something goes wrong.
i dont want to just take the advice of my dr..because although she is great.... you know how drs think the pill is the answer for everything...
any insights or thoughts or opinions...please let me know THANK YOU!!!!
xoxo jenn

I was just wondering if you'd tried depo provera? Or maybe the birth control patch would affect you differently? Have you tried a lot of different brands of birth control?
Just an idea...I'm not sure which I would choose to be honest!

Have you had bad experiences with BCPs in the past? The reason I am asking is that I had convinced myself that all BCPs were EVIL, and that I would never ever take them again.
Well, my RE convinced me to take Yasmin for one month in preparation for an injectable cycle. I loved it! I broke out the first few days, but after that my skin was perfectly clear and I normally have mild acne. On top of that, my facial and body hair went way down. I was able to continue to lose weight and never felt bad like I had in the past.
Even if you are "infertile" I think that not using anything would drive you crazy and you would convince yourself that you were pg each month. At least that is how I would be and I don't ovulate on my own. I would be running out for pg tests constantly even if I wasn't TTC.
So my advise is to possibly try the Yasmin for a month or two unless you have tried it before or have been really sick on BCPs.

i too have never been good at taking bcp's but my doc decided to try me on yasmin...on others i would have breakthrough bleeding, weight gain, i was such a b***h,acne..even in ortho tricyclen...so far yasmin has been a great help to me and my sex life...i hated my diaphram because it would always get stuck and i hated my bf acting like he was on a search and rescue mission to find it...plus this got him feeling a little randy and he would decide it didnt need to come out just yet...ugh...men and their sex drives..lol....condoms just arent my thing since my bf and i arent sleeping around with anyone but us and i know we are safe...plus it is harder for me to feel satisfied with the little hoodie on...lol...but try to talk to your doc about yasmin or very low dose bcp...they always work better for me....congrats on not ttc yet because i am 23 and i want a baby so bad and i know that i will probably have to fight to get one...hell i even changed my major to social work so that i can have my foot in the door when it comes time for me to adopt...but i know that i cant have one right now because both bf and i have so much more to complete in our lives before we can dedicate ourselves to a baby...i just want to make sure i can give my child the world...lol...as im sure all pcos women do...but anyway good luck in your birth control search....and dont ever try the female condom.....i heard it feels horrible...take care...christie
personally i wouldnt do depo..bc not only have i had friends who got seriously sick on them..but bc when you take a shot its in you for 3 months... no stopping if you cant tolerate it..stuck with it...i know it works for some but that for me is a definate no.
i havent tried the patches...honestly lol i am afraid it would fall off me and i would freak out.
the reason i am scared of bcps is.... when i tried them in the past... and i must have tried about 6 kinds..i would bleed almost the whole month and a serious bleed to boot. sigh. and i felt nauseas and pukey the whole time i was on them like i was pg, so yes i pretty much have felt that bcps were evil in the past.
although i havent tried yasmin...bc its new and the last time i tried bcps was about 10 years ago. and i think its weird..bc when i posted this earlier...i actually went researching yasmin..and then two of you ladies mentioned it when i came back and read this...is that a sign or what??? lol
i am definately going to talk to the dr about yasmin on thursday.
i have a question ..you arent supposed to smoke on the pill..so if i started the pill i would quit ( i really think i need to either be preggo or on the pill to make me stop) lol so that would be a good thing...
but my question is.... to reduce problems with clots, or heart problems... do you have to have quit smoking for a while before you start the bcps???
so it sounds to me that the consencus so far is try bcps again before i try an iud....i think i am leaning that way too.... i suppose if the new bcps wont work for me...then i will try the iud as a last resort..does this sound like a good idea? xoxo jenn thanks so much xox jenn

Have you talked to your doctor about possible cures for the bacterial/yeast infections? There may be something you can take, or do to help with that. (I think there are also some diets that help as well) Or....what about the possibility of a reaction to lube, or latex? Have you tried different brands/unlubed condoms?

we have tried alll different kinds of condoms...with lube without with spermicide without..everything. the yeast and bacterial infections..the drs are stumped... we are both std free and monogomous so its not that..its sex with condoms or diaphrams...sigh..

I think that sounds like a good plan. It sounds easier to try Yasmin for a while than having an IUD inserted and removed. You can stop the Yasmin at anytime.
I would think that stopping smoking at anytime before you beging would be fine.

I don't have much advice about the birth control. We had been using condoms for a couple years after I went off Ortho Tri-Cyclen. However, I hated condoms and we started practicing withdrawal! I don't know if I am fertile either. We are TTC so that's done with at this point.
However, I wanted to check in with you about the infections, because I may have a cure for you. I battled with chronic yeast and bacterial infections for years. I went to a million doctors and they could not explain it either. I saw the head of gynecology of UW as well as the head of GYN at a major hospital in my old city. I tried a billion home cures too with no luck.
Then one day I saw FemGlide in RiteAid. It's safe for diabetics (I'm not though) and is glycerin (I think that is SUGAR) free! It says it won't cause yeast infections on the bottle. It's also pap and sperm compatible. This is the only non-glycerin lube I am aware of being made.
So I switched from Astroglide (and whatever lubes condoms come with) and guess what? I haven't had an infection in a couple years now.
Changing lube was the only thing I did different. I didn't clear up overnight, but it was clear after a few weeks when no infection came, and no infection came...I couldn't believe it!!!
When we used condoms, we bought unlubricated condoms and added this lube to it. It's a nice lube..natural feeling. I highly recommend you give this a try. I hope this may help you as well.
I only start getting a mild infection now after I have gone for a GYN exam, when they touch you with the KY or whatever. When I went to the doctor all the time it obviously made me worse. Now I never have to go for an appt, because I am fine!
wow thats really interesting..i wonder what makes it special for diabetics??? thanks for that insight...its so hard getting these infections all the time no matter what i do...i will try the femglide in the meantime till i talk to the doc!! ( if i even attempt to have sex that is lol ) good luck with ttc! xo jenn
