Caroline Murphy ~ Our Wonderful PCOS Dietician - RIP :(

The title says it all

Sadly our wonderful PCOS Dietician from Reading & Wokingham (Berkshire Hospitals) passed away in a tragic car accident on Thursday 20th December 2007, aged only in her late 20's.

I know a few people here have been treated/being treated by her and hopefully you've all been informed of this tragedy by now but sadly I don't think they had everyone's email or up-to-date contact details.

Caroline did so much for people in/around Reading with PCOS and as a sufferer herself, knew how difficult it was for us and was always there to offer help. She set up various help groups and talks, as well as putting so much time into PCOS studies.

Without Caroline's help, I would never have lost weight and concieved my son and I'm eternally greatful to her.

Caroline was a beautiful person inside and out and was always smiling.

My thoughts are with her family at this terrible time.

i have just seen this.

I used to see Caroline lots of times and I was involved in her low carb study. I am so shocked and saddened by this. I hadnt heard this til just now and I feel sick, she was fantastic. I can absolulty assure you I wouldnt have my daughter without her and i doubt I would be pregnant with my second.

I know the 329m was closed on that thursday but I didnt realise it was caroline.

Owlie - I also took part in the same study and she was wonderful.

Not sure if you were interested in going to the funeral but I def am.

The details are as follows -

Thursday 10th January 2008 11am - St Peter's Church Caversham

12pm - River Suite, Crowne Plaza, Caversham Bridge

I would like to but Im not sure if I would feel a bit funny, because Im not one of her friends, you know? Would you take your son? Im not sure what I would do with my little girl if I did go.
She was such a fantastic person and I keep thinking about her alot.

Im not getting any of the emails about it as they are sent to my work address and Im on maternity leave. I emailed Caroline to tell her to change my email address but sadly I think it was even that thursday that I sent her the email

I'm not 100% sure how to do it yet although I will go to one or both of the thingies. I've taken DS to funerals before but he was alot younger and slept through so I'm in two minds about what to do with him. I think I will take him and 'play it by ear'. If he makes even a tiniest peep then I would leave. Maybe the wake is more suitable but then I feel awkward not going to the service and just turning up for that? I have no idea on etiquette on these sorts of things really, esp as I did not know her really well.

I believe the funeral details were sent out to the patient list as I was one of many on the email.

Am also confused exactly what the service is. I'm assuming a burial as no mention of the 'crem' but 1 hour doesn't seem long for a service/burial and then onto the Crowne Plaza.

That's so sad about the email on that day

I only got an email a couple of days before saying Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2008 etc., I keep looking back at it and feeling so sad.

Ive seen the post on verity about the funeral.

I would like to go but I just dont think my dd would sit still or be quiet for it. I just dont know what to do. Caroline did such a lot for me and gave me so much support, I feel its my duty to go.

Shellie- maybe the crem is family only or something??

Sorry only popped on very quickly and you may already have seen the info but wanted to post it just in case. I'll copy & paste the email I got this afternoon.

I have received a number of emails wanting to knowabout flowers/ donations etc. Caroline's family have requested family flowers only,but have nominated 2 charities in case anyone wouldlike to make a donation in memory of Caroline. Chequescan be sent c/o the Funeral Directors (0118 957 3650):A. B. Walker & Son Ltd - 36 Eldon Road, Reading,Berkshire, RG1 4DL made payable to “Verity - thePolycystic Ovaries Self-Help Group” or to "League ofFriends RBH".

They would like as many people who knew her to attendthe funeral. Shellie - thanks for posting the emails.
Owlie - I did email you, but obviously got an Out of Office reply as you are on leave. I am new to this message board, so I don't know if I can send you a private email or not - I will try. But Shellie has kindly posted all the information about the funeral.

I know Caroline's family would like as many people who knew her to attend the funeral. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you went to the Crowne Plaza even if you couldn't make the church. I'm sure they would understand either way.

I decided to go with my Mum, who also knew Caroline. She could always help out with the babies if there's any problems. x

Shellie- my mum will babysit my daughter in the morning so I am able to attend the service. I wont go to the wake though as I will need to pick her up as my mum is going out. So yes, Im going to the church. Im expecting it to be a very busy service; just because of the type of person Caroline was.

How did you find it today Shellie?

I cant believe how many people were there. it just goes to show she really did influence everyone she met. My thoughts are with her boyfriend and her family.
