Hi all!

littlflower - the Church allows BCPs to be used as treatment for menstrual problems since the INTENTION is not to contracept. However, I strongly encourage you to reread your post b/c when you say something along the lines of I think God would think it's ok if we don't have children for a year or two. That statement sounds like you're taking BCPs for the purpose of preventing pregnancy which is sinful. I'm not trying to judge you but I wanted you to be aware of what you say because it might not be what you mean. But that's how it came across to me. I'm sorry your OBGYN treated you like that, she obviously does not know the Church's teachings on fertility care which is sad. If you want to look for a new one check out omsoul.com.

In some other news....

I SAID YES!

This is how it happened:

We arrived at Devil Lake (eastern Ontario) at 4 in the morning. I was SO excited to be there since it's my favorite place on earth. We went to bed and I promised to let Steven sleep as late as he could. But then I woke him up around 10:30 because I didn't want to waste any daylight on our short trip there. We ate some breakfast and then Grandy and Papa took us over to Aunt Vicki's cottage which is being built. (which looks like it's going to be one posh cabin too) Afterwards, Grandy and Papa went back to their cottage and Steven and I walked almost a mile away before I asked him where he wanted to go. He said he'd like to be close to the water so I said we should really go back to the lots then because all these cabins on the lake have people in them who might not take too kindly to strangers coming on to their lakefront property. So we went back to the lots. Now you must understand that my female family members are VERY sentimental, especially Grandy and Aunt Vicki. Aunt Vicki had created Prayer Point which is a small peninsula (just an outcropping really) where they put up a cross and a small grotto with a bench. At this point I was getting a bit suspicious, but I had been suspicious a few times before when it didn't happen, so I wasn't going to get my hopes up. But after praying together and Steven saying some very wonderful things about spending the rest of our lives together, he was suddenly on his knee before me with a ring. There was maybe a nanosecond of silence before I said yes and instructed him which hand to put it on.
Of course Grandy and Papa were the first to know and we called family right away. My parents were difficult to get a hold of because they were out in the fields with prospective buyers. But both Zach and Emma figured it out right away and wisely kept their mouths shut.
So on Independence Day, I declared my dependence.

PS - no date set yet

PPS - I have lost my camera so I don't have any pictures but my fiance has some which he will hopefully post soon.

BLESSINGS TO ALL!

Love, Kara

Congratulations Kara!! That's very exciting (and romantic)! My DH proposed to me on the top of a mountain just after we finished praying a rosary at the foot of a cross erected there. It's a great way to start the rest of your life together. God bless you both!

Hello to the rest of you. I haven't been around on this thread much lately. Just trying to make it through this pregnancy while moving into a new house and taking care of a toddler. It's been challenging and has kept us very busy, but God is so good and has blessed us abundantly. We're looking forward to our little girl arriving in less than two months!!

Kara,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! May you and Steven be blessed in your life together. I'm facing the Mom side of courtship this summer. My going to be a sophomore daughter started courting/dating a nice young man at Franciscan several months ago. They mostly IM and talk on the phone for the summer.

Little Flower

All I can say is I had a "Catholic" ob-gyn who prescribed the pill for me for years and I wish she had brought up church teaching at all. I REALLY REALLY recommend contacting a Creighton/Napro/PopePaul VI trained doctor. The pill really isn't always the best treatment. It can cause a lot of problems(high blood pressure, strokes, blood clots I personally had my blood pressure shoot up and I know someone who died from a BCP stroke) and can be abortive unless you and your husband are doing strict abstaining/NFP. It sounds like your doctor could have been more diplomatic though.

Rachel? Have you heard from the VA yet?

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend.

Becky

So here's my bio in a nut shell, I had PCOS symptoms from the age of 11 or so, periods started at 14 and then only 1 or 2 periods a year. My mom and I struggled to get answers and I was finally put on the pill because of my incredibly long cycles, and very painful cysts. I remianed on the pill for most of my first year of marriage due to getting painful cysts and having a cyst rupture everytime I was off of it. I had tried some homeopathic remedies with no results for me. Finally I decided to try accupuncture, helped with the cysts, not the periods. So here I am desperately wanting to have a baby and working with my Dr. I just found out that my insurance will cover absolutely nothing related to fertility and I am trying very hard not to be angry. I could really use some prayers.

Hi, Everyone!

Did y'all miss me? I know it's been almost a month since I've been on here. Sorry about that!

Welcome to all of the newbies!

CONGRATS, KARA!!!!! I sent you an e-card--I hope you received it!

I just discovered this AWESOME website that EVERYONE needs to see! It's catholicscomehome.org. You will DEFINITELY want to check it out!!!!!

I do have some great news! Chris & I are finally getting a house!!!! We move in at the end of next month, when our lease runs out!

Please pray for me as I deal with the sometimes yucky symptoms of PCOS! Today I've been fighting a bad headache, which of course is no fun!

How is everyone else?

Blessings,
Carrie

My GYN called me today.............

She called me after hours to let me know how my tests came back.

I do have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. that was in the blood test.

The US showed that I also have a goiter and in the lower part, a nodule.

She said I definatly need to see the surgeon on Tuesday. DH is thinking that if my thyroid will give out, why not just take it out while we still have really good insurance.

I am so glad to know that it wasn't in my head. I really am tired all the time and there is a reason for it. Thank you Lord for helping me find this out.

Lupe - Welcome to our thread!! Definitely get the novenas to St. Gerard and St. Gianna Beretta Molla going! God's timing is not our timing so though we strive for what seems like holy goals, (having children for example) we need to accept God's will with joy AND his timing. I've definitely struggled with this as I feel like an old maid and just now am engaged... (I'm 28)
Yellow - That sounds very scary. I will be praying for you.
Carrie - CONGRATS!!! I really want to skip the whole apt thing and go straight to a house especially since we're both renters and it's a good market for us. But Steven is quite the cautious person and wants a 10% down payment before we start looking....

All my love cysters!! Please pray for tranquility as we try to budget a wedding.

love, Kara

Default Follow Up to My Last Post

As a follow up to my post: Maybe I am not communicating clearly on my experience and background. I am very knowledgeable about Catholic theology and have led local discussion groups on Pope JP II's Love and Responsibility. I have attended Chris West lectures on Theology of the Body. With a history of being enthusiastic about Catholic teaching and how it relates to human sexuality, my heart has been in the right place with my medical treatment, regardless of how my GYN behaved. The only reason I am still questing for the right type of NFP info is because my doctor refused to go into it prior to marriage with the excuse, "Well, we'll just wait until your married to get into this." I traveled across state boundaries to see a "Catholic GYN" for years though. And, I believe that I am holding off on a child for grave reasons. That is why I find it particularly offensive and shocking to be accused of contraception and not having pure intentions. To me, that's evidence that it is occasionally true that you can be Catholic, do everything right, and still be accused of wrongdoing.

What I am encountering is a lot of confusion, grey areas, and suspicion when it comes to Catholic women with PCOS coming to any conclusion other than: I must discontinue my meds immediately and have children continuously regardless of my income, health, or life mission. That is actually NOT Church teaching...but it is being construed that way by people who really do not seem to be spiritually mature or able to weigh many factors into an equation, including grave issues.

We aren't in a baby making contest! I have personally seen people from middle class backgrounds end up getting government subsidies to support a baby that they were not prepared for financially (no health insurance either), and they thought they were doing the "Catholic" thing. Spacing children is not a sin nor dealing with medical issues in a reasonable way.

And whatever happened to giving people the benefit of the doubt? If someone has agonized over their PCOS, their meds, their fertility, church teaching, and is on it...they aren't the people to be discouraging or accusing of sin. As PCOSers, we know that different women have different symptoms and the severity is also a variable, so one treatment and one decision does not fit all. It's where your heart is and if you are truly being as generous as you can be to God, and being proactive about your medical treatment.

Thank you Kara for your encouraging words. And you are not an old maid, I was 28 wgen I got married also.

Yellow, you are in my prayers.

A quick update on me, I went in to my Gyn office yesterday, had an US, and was told I have two nice follicles developing in my right ovary! I go back in on Tuesday to see how much they've come along and hopefully will be ready for a trigger shot! I don't want to get my hopes too high, but I am grateful and exited.

Hi, Everyone,

I saw my doctor today, and he increased my Met dosage! He wasn't happy with my patterns on my Creighton chart. He said "either you exercise, or I increase your dosage." So guess what I chose! It's just too hot right now to exercise!!

This question is for the married ladies on here. Do any of you ever go through a period of time where you don't want to be pregnant? Is this selfish of me to be feeling like this? I mean, it's not like I'm not open to God's will, but I'm secretly hoping that I don't get pregnant anytime soon! I have several good reasons why, but am I being selfish? I'd love to know y'all's thoughts on this.

Thanks & God Bless,
Carrie
