Yes, I'm afraid so, Anne.
| Right now we are celibate (ok we messed up once since we started this but granted that is pretty darn good), anywho--I am on BC to lessen the size of cysts and make my period come only once a month instead of every week and only having one week to "breathe" persay. How about Metformin? Is that also bad?
I really dont trust it anymore as a birth control--been on it faithfully for almost 3 years and has resulted in 3 pregnancies. Never missed, always at the same time, etc.

Here's a thread with lots of progesterone information - ***Progesterone Information***
There are many people's experiences with progestrone, and I found it very informative.
Anne - I don't think that Metformin is that bad. I was on it previously, but I didn't stick with it because the side effects were unpleasant (and I was in college and not interested in dealing with it). If you are insulin resistant, it can help your body regulate and many women ovulate and have more normal cycles as a result. I consider it one of the safer drugs to treat PCOS, but since I keep testing negative for IR, my GYN will not prescribe it for fear of my blood sugar getting too low.
In other news, I believe that I am down around 5 pounds! Over the last few weeks, I've really cut out sugar and most white stuff. I always thought people who did that were crazy, but it's not impossible or altogether unpleasant. I am still having red wine and dark chocolate (in moderation), but you have to have treats!
I must say that it is nice to see results - for once!
Take Care!
Ashley

Anne ~ BCPs are what spurred on my symptoms, I gained 30lbs in three months. I chose to go the natural route to control my PCOS, but if you need something for cycles and that doesn't work you could try the Prometrium. It isn't BC and women use it to help regulate cycles when they are TTC and I believe it is also prescribed for those who need it in early PG. I have never used Progesterone with any of my pgs, never had a problem that way.
Amy ~ I hope I am responding to the right person! LOL I think you should check with your Dr. again on the progesterone, but it usually is different with everyone depending on why you are taking it, kwim? It may make a difference whether you are bleeding too much, or not enough as to when you would start it.
Hope everyone is have a spiritually fullfilling Lent! I just got in my books off of ebay, WOO HOO! I will be engaging in some good spiritual reading for the next week until I check back in. God Bless everyone!

Thanks for your prayers. My mom is still scared to drive, and she probably will be for a long time. I had an accident 4 years ago, and it scared me stiff!
Actually, my doctor said to start taking the progesterone on the first post-peak day, and then for nine days after that. So far, I've just had some severe cramping during ovulation this week, and mild fatigue.
I finally got my CPAP today! So I'm FINALLY going to get a good night's sleep!!! My doctor said that once that happens, weight loss and fertility should start falling into place! I'll keep you posted. HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!
God Bless,
Carrie

I really dont trust it anymore as a birth control--been on it faithfully for almost 3 years and has resulted in 3 pregnancies. Never missed, always at the same time, etc. | Dear Anne,
Metformin is a diabetic drug that has been found to be successful in treating PCOS. It is not birth control. People will tell you about unpleasant side effects, but as long as you take it every 10-12 hours WITH FOOD OR MILK, you should be fine. Your body may take a week or so to adjust to it, but I've found that that, in combination with the progesterone pills, are really helping regulate my cycles a lot.
Ashley, thanks for the info!
Tam, we miss you on here! It's nice to see you!

I'm going to talk to my OB/GYN about what other options I could have without having birthcontrol as one of them.
Thanks for the advice.

My Mood: Points: 1,529.89 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,529.89 | A couple thoughts ladies:
Amy - hey! Thanks for listening, it was a lot of fun filling in last week.
Ashley - thanks for the info and CONGRATS on the weight loss
About birth control - bcps are particularly nasty chemicals that we women put in our bodies which can cause a lot of harm. HOWEVER, when using it as a way to regulate hormones - NOT TO REGULATE BIRTHS - then it is not sinful or against the teachings of the Church. We all need to pray diligently that the Lord will bless us with a cure or another treatment soon!!
Also Anne, like Carrie said, Metformin is in no way a contraceptive, in fact usually women find themselves able to conceive after being on it and regulating their weight. Anne, I'm so proud of how hard you're trying to live your faith. The temptation must be excrutiating and to only have succombed once is a very valient effort. KEEP IT UP! There is always confession no matter how many times you sin - just don't let that be your excuse.
Thanks for the Happy St. Patrick's Day Carrie - that was also my mom's and my birthday!
Happy Feast of St. Joseph all!
blessings, Kara |

I'd like to go to penance services today at my church. I've not been in years. Can someone remind me how you do it? I can't remember. I remember bits and pieces.
Also do you think it would be okay for me to bring my 8 week old son? I'd have no one to watch him for that time.

My Mood: Points: 1,529.89 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,529.89 | Most of the penance services I've been to have a program which guides you through it. It usually contains an examination of conscience and then points to individual confession. Are you looking for how to do that as well?
If so, this is how I do it:
1. Cross self and say "Bless me Father, for I have sinned. It's been ____ weeks/months/years since my last confession."
2. Confess sins
3. I always end with "and for any sins that I can't remember"
4. Hopefully, your priest will have some advice for you which he shares now.
5. He'll give you a penance and ask you to pray an Act of Contrition. Mine goes "Oh my God, I am sorry for my sins, in choosing to sin and in failing to do good. I've sinned against You and Your Church. I firmly intend with the help of Your Son, to make up for my sins and to love as I should."
6. He then gives you absolution.
I should think a baby that young would be very normal to bring along.
HTH!!
blessings,
Kara |

The longest part was waiting in line and then waiting for everyone else to be done to finish the service. Most people left during this time because they had to get back to work, but since i had no where to be I just waited and prayed. The baby slept for the most part.

I've been staying off of all of my boards but one, until this week. Last monday I had a Level II u/s of my boys, and it was discovered that my cervix is thinning really fast. It went from 5 cm to 1.54cm...and I was having ctx. So, they have put me on strict but modified bedrest (in other words, I get to lay down horizontally for 75-80% of the time, which is a whooooole lot of fun, let me tell you). DH is in LA til the end of this week (he's been gone since Feb 23) so he is going to get to come home to a "you must take over everything immediately" situation--fortunately I know that he knows what is going on here. I also know that his next month is going to be hell on earth--he is going to be in charge of making sure all of the things that they used in LA are cleaned and repacked and gotten ready to go overseas....possibly loaded up and shipped off, as it will need to be done asap...they have block leave from 28 April til 14 May...my edd for the twins is somewhere between the middle of May and the first week of June. And then sometime in June he leaves for a yr overseas. Lovely.
So, please pray for me. I still won't be on here much, but I can use all of the prayers I can get. The boys look GREAT size wise, and I am doing well (haven't gained a ton, etc)...but they still need to bake ALOT (I'm only 27w2d today).
Thanks ladies. I'll be back before too long--Lent is almost over....
Easter will be upon us, Praise God....
Rachel
