Default CD 12 scan on Clomid. Follie size?

I went in for my CD 12 scan today. I did clomid 100mg days 5-9 and I'm also on Metformin 1000mg a day. My doctor I'm seeing right now is not a RE he's an associate of my RE who is fully booked for the rest of the year

Anyway he did the scan and said I have no folicles on my left side but a couple on my right the biggest two being 10mm. Is this normal for cd 12? I do have longer than normal cycles (around 35 days) do I still have a chance to actually O? He's not doing another scan and doesn't seem hopeful which makes me angry. He did say that folicles grow around 2mm a day so I "might" O this coming weekend.

Do I have a chance?

yes!! that's normal for Cd12. Remember that on Clomid you can ovulate later than expected, so by Cd18 or 20, they could be pretty huge! Hang in there! Why isn't he doing another scan?

No idea on why he isn't doing another scan. As I said he's a regular OB/GYN that works in the office that my RE also works in sometimes (my RE is also a high risk OB) and because of insurance reasons they want to keep me at this office instead of my RE's office (everything at the RE's office is labeled as infertility while my current doctor can put it as PCOS and repeat visits) It helps because I have a limited lifetime infertility max on my insurance and just in case I need more assistance they want to save it.

I asked about a repeat scan but he said no that he'd see me in 4 weeks and to not get my hopes up. It upsets me because I normally like this doctor I mean he's the one that diagnosed me with PCOS and started me on Metformin which means I actually get AF on my own now. But he just seems clueless when it comes to infertility

I'm just going to start using OPK's starting CD 16 and of course I'm charting so hopefully I will O

It doesn't sound like he knows what he is talking about. Can you request your RE order another scan? Or is there a way to actually talk to the RE before the 4 weeks?

Your doctor is wrong to automatically assume you won't get to a good follie size, which is 18mm. If you have a longer cycle you probably wouldn't naturally ovulate on cd14 like some women do. I tend to ovulate at cd 17 and my follicles plug along and are right around where yours are on cd12, so don't worry about that.

While I'm sure your doc is a good ob/gyn, it's amazing what they don't know about infertility. Just as an example, I went to a highly recommended ob/gyn about 9 years ago and when I asked him if it was possible that I had pcos, he said, "I've never heard of that." Incredible, but sadly, true. Your doc, while well intentioned, has tunnel vision. I would demand a scan at cd16 or 17.

Having said all that, your follies might not progress, but you won't know anything about that unless he takes another look.

Good Luck and baby dust!!!

I'm sorry you are frustrated with your Dr. If it helps I went in one CD 12 this cycle and only had one 10mm follie. I just ovulated (late) on CD 19....so there is still hope, hang in there.

O.M.G. we are the SAME EXACT dates and sizes!!!! Today I went in and had 3 follies 2 on the right and 1 on the left, the right the sizes were 11 and 12 and the left is only 9 but look last month I ovulated on CD19 with a huge 22cm follie!! But that was on the 19th!! So I figure by the CD 19 even and they grow like they are suppose to then we will have more than a good sized follies! I think I will ovulate on CD17 only becasue my LP was by 2 days shorter so who knows and even at that my largest follie will be 20 and they 18 is matured! GOOD LUCK to you!!!

Same exact thing happened to me last Thursday.....I went in for my CD12 scan and had only one 10mm and a few smaller. RE told me to return on Yesterday (CD18) and my follie had grown to 23mm and she is expecting me to ovulate real soon. Your Doc is wrong for putting your hopes down. Try Opk's and temp to confirm ovulation. I'm sure it will haopen for ya! Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. I can't demand another scan because they are being nice enough to squeeze me into the schedule as it is as this doctor is fully booked up until the end of November. He's been scheduling me during his LUNCH breaks for the past month. He has been in full consult with my RE over my meds and such but I haven't seen my actual RE since March of this year and he's booked up for the rest of the year

I drive over an hour to get to these doctors they are actually in a different state than me but they are the best doctors around here.

I'm still charting and have started OPK's today. I have hope that I will ovulate. I think I have to be ovulating on me own to be having normal cycles on the met now right? I went from 60 day annovulatory cycles to 30-35 day cycles on met.

I had my CD 12 scan today and they also did a blood draw. They said I had a couple of tiny follies, my lining was thin, and my estrogen was low. They said basically like I was at the baseline, so they are having me do Clomid again in this same cycle to try and build some follies. I'll be doing it CD 14-18.

Not that this is any consolation, but you most likely will have good follicles ready a week from now. My recommendation for your next cycle is to take the Clomid days 3-7. That's when I take mine and usually, by CD 12, I have at least one decent follicle ready. It makes a different for me.
