I watched an episode of Oprah years ago about women with facial hair issues. Some of the women were "rebeling" against the norm and not shaving or plucking, letting full goatees grow and whatnot. There was a BRIEF mention by one of the women that she had PCOS, but it was not discussed in length. I remember this clearly because it was when I was first diagnosed, and I thought I was going to wake up in the morning with a beard. It took almost a decade for the worst of my facial hair problems to surface, but that's the last I've heard of PCOS mentioned on a talk show format.

Do you think other celebrities would have this? Is it very common?

I'm not sure why more people don't talk openly about it. PCOS and infertility affects so many people. There should be no stigma with this.

Think about it. If you work in an industry where looks are EVERYTHING, why would you admit that you have such a disease as PCOS? I know I certainly wouldn't because that's my paycheck and I have a family to feed. When I have talked to some of my friends and family about PCOS, they look at me like I'm a freak. Just think about the general public, a lot of people couldn't understand the dynamics of PCOS. A lot are too ignorant to understand or want to understand until it affects them.

I think Oprah is staying away from PCOS because of the "weight" thing.
We all know there are women who use PCOS as an excuse for being "overweight", and I think that's why Oprah stays away from this subject.

For some reason, media just tends to sweep women's health issues (besides cancer) and infertility under the rug. And if infertility is discussed, it usually is filled with uneducated discussions.

I've actually written the Oprah Show trying to get them to do a story on PCOS.........I guess the media is just happy to continue to blame "ALL" obesity on gluttony, lack of self control and greed.

I actually found out about his website from doing my own research one day after getting a paper thin phamplet from my ob/gyn and having her say to me

"Oh you dont have cancer, but I think you may have PCOS and it may be diffcult for you to lose weight"

then she sent me out the door with a boat load of questions........

Get a hold of yourself, woman. You know what I meant, there are women out there with PCOS who NEVER DO ANYTHING to improve their weight problem. WE ALL know what its like to fight being over weight, I had to STARVE myself to get in and stay in the ARMY.
