With polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), ovaries become covered in cysts, causing pain and in some cases, infertility. The pain of PCOS is something singer Kym Marsh is familiar with. Mother of two Kym, who is about to marry actor Jack Ryder, suffered stomach pains during Hear'Say's 2001 UK tour. An operation revealed she had polycystic ovaries. She says the news was worrying: `I won't know whether it has affected my fertility until I try for more kids.' Kym, who still has pains from the condition, works round it by taking a few days off each month. A drug called clomiphene citrate can help PCOS sufferers to ovulate, and in extreme cases IVF may be necessary.
