Emma Thompson Actress Emma Thompson, 45, has a five-year-old daughter, Gaia. She needed IVF because of PCOS and conceived on the first attempt, but subsequent attempts have failed. She suffered a miscarriage in 1997 and made no secret of her longing to have a baby.

I love Jamie Oliver! I'm glad they were able to get their little one I was surprised to see so few names mentioned... shouldn't 1 in 10 female celebrities have this??

It is unfortunate. I know of several celebs who have it and are advised again talking about it. When I became the National Spokesperson for the PCOSA, as a Plus Size model I was advised against it too. Too unsexy, too graphic. I told "them" that it doesn't matter... and I am not a celeb so they have nothing to worry about. It is important to me, and I only answer to myself and God.
I think it is lame. If you think about how many women have PCOS it is for sure running deeper in the Hollywood community than just the few mentioned on the list.
How come they were advised not to talk about it?
Thanks,
Kate

It think it's sad that celebrities wouldn't come forward to stand for a cause that is in such need of attention. So many women go around every day not knowing what is wrong with them, with the publicity a big name celebrity could give, it could bring much needed awareness to our cause.

I think her ( Posh) thinness is related to losing control while trying to control her PCOS. She definitely has hairloss issues too.
I don't necessarily agree... some of us are just skinny. Then add a low carb diet to the mix or metformin and we get even skinnier. I'm normally about 112-115 and 5'4.5". I got down to 107 at one point, but still got pregnant.
You would think celebrities would make it more well known than they do. Just like any other causes they promote.

I can see why they wouldn't want to promote it, though. Since a lot of it has to do with periods and fertility and stuff, that's something that a lot of people don't feel comfortable discussing, as it is too personal. I think it'd be interesting to see which celebs have it, though!

Exactly. They are so image-oriented that having a flaw like this could make them seem less sexy and desirablew, which would make them less hirable. I mean, we all know guys hate any mention of a woman's period or cycles and all that...so I can imagine them not wanting to lust over a celeb with a known problem relating to that, since Hollywood is pure fantasy, that's not something most people would want to fantasize about...
