Default Celexa

I am currently on 40mg of Celexa and I love it! I cant take Zoloft bc im allergic to something in it that makes my skin fall off (gross) and I didnt respond to effexor xr. My question is when i get pregnant (if i guess i should say) i cant take celexa what would you suggest?

I also take 30mg of Celexa. I love it too! I also had tried Zoloft first, but didn't like it.
I'm not sure about taking it when pregnant. I hope to get pregnant in the future as well and plan on trying to get off the Celexa first, just a personal preference.

hi. i am currently on the last 3 weeks of my detox from celexa. it has been rough. if you are planning to get pregnant, i would recommend talking to your doc about weaning you off the ssri's before you start trying to conceive. it's not an easy prospect, but really the healthiest way. the two of you can devise a plan that will work best for you. my doc added sleeping meds and anti-anxiety pills to make the process easier. just keep in mind that getting off the meds should not be an overnight process. it can and should take weeks to be free of the withdrawal symptoms and mood swings that come with these pills. be sure to have a safety net in place with family and friends, so they know what you are doing. and you will be fine.

((i am just a little bit jealous that you get to keep taking celexa. but i know, for me, it was time to quit. ))

either way, good luck!!
take care and stay safe.

I would talk to your doc to see if it is safe for you to be preggers and take Celexa, because I know that a lot of antidepressents are ok to take while knocked up.

It is nice to hear that so man ypeople are benefiting from Celexa...because it did not help me...well not in the long run. It helped me overcome depression for about 5 months, and then suddenly I was back to square one. But if it works for you than yay!
I stopped taking the medication cold turkey (seems like a bad idea I know) but I really did not have too many withdrawl symptoms...it could be because I was only on the 20mg dosage...or maybe it oculd be that I was depressed while Iw as on it so I didn't feel anything because I was already depressed haha. Either way, for me getting off of it there were no problems. I am not saying that you won't get symptoms, but that was just my experience with the meds. Best of luck to you!

Hi there,
I'm currently taking celexa as well (10 mg) and on the drug information sheet it says not to take during pregnancy or breast feeding, so you may want to talk to your doctor about trying a new one that you can stay on during pregnancy.

I just started taking it and the doc said I couldnt take it while nursing..and most drugs if they arent safe to take while nursing they def. aren't safe to take while pregnant.

Most doctors have the opinion of - if the benefits outweigh the risks. I had a lot of anxiety issues while I was PG and my OB hesitated to put me on anything and instead asked I just 'hold out' and try therapy. (I wasn't too bad just had anxiety issues).

I went to a psychiatrist and she helped a lot while I was pg! so maybe that could be an option for you.

typically anti depressants are hard to get off of.. I suggest a slow weening over about a month or 2.

half a pill every day, then half a pill every 2 days, half a pill every 3 days.. honestly.. u need to go slow :-D
