I don't take antidepressants any longer, but I have taken Celexa, and it was probably the only AD that I really noticed NO weight gain.
Just my experience though.....
HTH
hey, i gained weight on citalopram, not a huge amount but around half a stone i think. i'm on prozac (fluoxetine) now and i'm definately a lot better on it. But thats probably just me, remember things work differently for different people, what works for me may not work for you and vice versa...hopefully celexa will be ok for you. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed - i know just how frustrating it can be trying to find something that helps!

Lesley, are you taking any other meds with the Celexa? I ask because when I was taking Celexa, I was also on another med that is notorious for weight gain in a huge population, and I still didn't gain, but I was also doing the treadmill, this was back in 2001. I almost dislike posting about the weight gain/loss with the psychotropic meds, because everyone is so different, Prozac contributed to 80 Lbs on me, but yet it didn't for the cyster above.
lol - a whole board could be started on the effect antidepressants have on our minds and bodies.
All the best to you
Thanks SurrenderedCyster! I guess it depends on the person! I have found that I have gained some weight but I am not sure if it is from the celexa or not. the only other meds that I am on is metformin so I don't think that it is that.. Thanks for your response

I just recently came off my meds (lexapro) b/c of this very issue. It seems that SSRI's are notorious for causing weight gain/making it impossible to lose weight, but for one reason or another, docs fail to mention this. Check out www.prozactruth.com. As always, it is different for everyone, and you have to weigh benefits against possible negatives; controlling your depression may be more important than the weight issue right now. I know as many people who didn't gain "much" weight or no weight as I do people who gained tons! So who knows? Just keep eating healthy and getting exercise, and you should be fine! HTH!
Hi Lesley, sorry for the slow reply - havent been on to this forum for a few days......anyway i think half a stone is about 7lbs. i put it on while i was on the celexa even tho i was doing lots of exercise, but one thing this could have been due to is that on celexa i found my emotional/comfort eating was ten times worse than it had been on prozac (in fact on prozac it is hardly a problem at all.) on prozac i eat normally, if anything i'd say my appetite decreases on prozac, and i have found i only eat emotionally sometimes on it, nowhere near as bad as the celexa - but i was on the celexa at a very stressful time and just starting metformin.... and the weight i'd lost since comin of the pill (dianette) and starting on prozac piled on when i changed to celexa. but it has come off again now i'm back on the prozac (still on metformin). sorry this is all jumbled - hope u'll be able to make out what i'm trying to say!! but it'll be down to how u personally react to the drug- hopefully it'll work wonders for you!

I was taking Celexa for 8 months and I DID gain weight, but then I was depressed and so I ate.... so I blame that rather than the Celexa, I was on 40mg a day!
It hasn't made me hungry and I have no interest in food or eating at the moment, I don't comfort eat when I am depressed I go off food. I think it was in March the last meal I actually managed to clear my plate. Somedays I will have a chocolate soya drink for breakfast and maybe a couple of apples during the day. I have been on the Celexa almost a month now, I see my GP on Wednesday so I don't know if she will keep me on the 20mg or increase the dose.
