    Question Chances of Getting Pregnant

    Hello,

I was diagnosed in December 2003; I have been on Metformin (2000 mg) since February. I get so discouraged that I will never get pregnant... Are there any statistics on getting pregnant, on Metformin alone? I used to belong to a buddy group on another site and was getting quite discouraged because two girls had miscarriages

To top it off, we found out Thursday that DH's SA showed he has a low motility (42% move - of those, 29% move in circles, 13% move slowly and 0% move fast!!!). I have no idea how bad this is - I know it's not good. We go to the doctor on Monday to review the results and see what our next steps should be. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated

I just want to tell you not to give up, it will happen for you.
My DH and I ttc for 7 years before I started on metformin/ avandia
(you might want to check out that combo, I have found its recommended when ttc) As each woman responds diffrently to metformin I have no real way of saying youll be pregnant by such and such time, but I can tell you how it worked for me.
I started on 850mg metformin and 4mg avandia twice a day. I had pretty bad side effects but they only lasted about a week. I was on that dose for 12 months then talked to my Dr. about increasing it. I then started takeing 1000mg metformin and 4mg avandia twice a day. Two months later I was pregnant. I also wanted to let you know that my DH's sc is rather irregular. The first time he had a count done it was pretty high, and then the next 4 counts were just over 2mil and not much motility and then the next count it was back up(for the life of me I can't remember the exact numbers). Just remember, it only takes one I kind of think what worked for me was not focusing on ttc. After 12 months of trying I started to just be thankful that my PCOS symptoms were under control. Although you can't comepletly forget about ttc (After all, there is a little window of time after you "O" that the one little guy has to make it there)
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that there is always hope and for you to not give up on your dream of having a child.

I got pregnant with my daughter on just 1500 mg of Met a day. I don't understand why so many people are on 1000 mg. I thought 1500 mg was the least dose you should take? I was on 1000 mg a day for 6 months with no effect and when I bumped up to 1500 mg I conceived my daughter 2 weeks later! I just started Met again 6 days ago and now I'm spotting/AF already! Yay Met! I do have to add that I'm only 165 lbs so maybe thats why it works quicker for me?

Here is my little story: I was on Avandia for about 8 months, not TTCing (on BCPs). I was switched off of Avandia and BCPs and put on Glucophage by recommendation of my RE. I started AF for the first time (even in the middle of a pack of bcps!) shortly thereafter. I had two trouble free cycles and got pregnant on the third cycle! My RE took me off of Glucophage at 4-6 weeks pregnant, but I was put on prometrium until 12 weeks because of low progesterone, as I hear most of us PCOS'er seem to have.

Results vary, but that is my story! Good luck to you and lots of babydust your way!

    Hi London !

Don't lose hope, hon ! It can happen !

I'd like to extend an invitation to join our little thread that we've got on SoulCysters called "Male Factor Buddies". It's for women with PCOS who have a male with low count/bad morphology, etc.

    You can find it here:
    http://www.soulcysters.net/showthrea...0&pagenumber=1

The first page lists the graduates from the thread (I'm in there )
You may want to just start posting as you would never read all those pages

I was on 1500mgs of Metformin since January/04. We found out my DH had a varicocele in Dec/03. I started ovulating regularly after being on the Met, and he had a bilateral varicocele repair surgery done in February. Voila ! Here we are pregnant

I'm not sure what to tell you on the statistics....but come and join our thread. Post your delimma there and see what the girls tell you. Vitamins can help (look up pycnogenol) (some girls' DH's take it).

    Talk to you soon,
    Tracy

I went on Metformin in December 2002. I stopped birth control pills in APril 2003 and by June was having cycles every 32 days. I was not trying to get pregnant. At the end of September I got pregnant and my doc says it is a miracle. I went off the met in November and have had a great pregnancy.
My coworker also has PCOS and she tried for years to conceive to no avail. 5 years ago she adopted 2girls and stopped trying to conceive. A few years ago she went on Met but stopped when her doctor told her she did not need to be on it anymore. SHe just found out she is pregnant and she did not try- it was a pleasant surprise.
Keep your spirits up and good luck

    Default DON'T GIVE UP

Don't give up!!!!!! I just wanted to encourage everyone ttc by telling my story. I had infertility for years and it took me eighteen years to get pregnant. I had everything working against me. I have PCOS, endometrosis, my cervix is pushed way back, and my husband had a very low sperm count. I have been through everything you can imagine. I had several years of Clomid. I had tests I can't even count and I had laser surgery to my ovaries. My husband took shots to try and increase his sperm count. We tried artificial insemination two times. We finally gave up and we thought we would never have a baby. I went for several years not even ttc because I thought it would never happen. Then when I least expected it, I got pregnant. I was almost four months before I found out because my periods were so irregular. I now have a miracle baby and it is only by God's grace. We prayed for our miracle for years and God answered us. I will never forget my pain of infertility and what I went through. Please don't give up!!!!! Keep trying and keep praying!!!!!!! God is awesome!!!!! I just hope this might help someone who was really discouraged today. God Bless. Tammy/JJ.
