Default change in appetite on synthroid?

I just started taking synthroid yesterday and have noticed that for the last 2 days (yesterday and today) I am very hungry. Could it be from the synthroid? I did just go on a long weekend where I was not low carbing it (we went to New Orleans and I just had to splurge) and just eating like I used to. I did not think that eating carbs could affect my appetite like the way I feel right now. I mean, I am REALLY hungry and I had turnip greans and pepper steak (no rice) for lunch 2 hours ago and I feel like I never had lunch. Has anyone else noticed this sort of reaction to synthroid?

I noticed that I am super hungrey myself. I take the generic synthroid. I think I am in the kitchen every hour at least looking for something to eat. I think that in the two months that I have been on this I have probably gained a couple pounds instead of losing them. I am also breastfeeding which should help shed some weight, but I know that I am eating the 500 calories you burn a day doing that. This was on of the questions that I was going to ask my doctor. I think that I probably need to be on a higher dose.

YES! I am super-hungry since I started Synthroid. I was on name brand at first, now on generic, I eat all the time on both. I eat about 3 times as much as I used to, and of course I'm gaining weight at an alarming rate! I eat low-carb too, which used to reduce my appetite, I mean some days I'd have to remind myself to eat. That was before Synthroid though. I still low-carb but can't get enough to eat!

I'm on 75mcg which just barely gets my free T3 within range. Free T4 and TSH were always normal but my free T3 was very low - way out of range - before I started the Synthroid. I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better off to just stop taking it. I'm tempted to, because it hasn't helped me with anything except being cold all the time.

Wina, maybe you should talk to your doctor about the side effects of the medicine and the subsequent weight gain. My doctor"s nurse practitioner e-mailed me and told me that the increased appetite is a side effect, but in her next statement she asked if it is getting any better, like it will wear off eventually. I should be talking with the doc some time this week...next week at the latest since I had some more labs drawn and it is one of my questions to ask. I am only on 25 mcg synthroid (just diagnosed a couple of weeks ago) and go back for more bloodwork on 11/30 to see if they need to adjust the dosage. I have also found that I am much more tired than usual. Are you more tired, too?
