Default Changed to Metformin from XR made me crazy!!

Hey---
My doctor changed me from Metformin xr to metformin and now I have anxiety attacks, depression, hot flashes. It started 2 weeks ago after I changed my meds. Anyone else experience that? He changed me because I was waking up in the middle of the night to eat.
ARgh

I had CRAZY mood swing on regular MET. I had to back way down to 500mg and very, very slowly up my dose to keep from losing my mind. I'd talk to your Dr if I were you!

I usually take it right in the middle of my food--and it took me about 4 weeks to get used to it. unfortunately some people do better on one than another.
Take Care,

I'm on reg met & I feel nauseated after taking it. Also, I've had some depression, but never thought it was connected to the met. I have been off it for 2 weeks & I feel great. I go to my RE tomorrow & was going to ask him about giving me XR.

When I called for a refill for Met ER they accidently did the RX for regular Met, I figured I'd just use that but I became a mess, very depressed and easily angered. I called and got put back on the ER and have had no problems since. Met has made my life so much better, before it I always felt tired and moody despite diet and exercise and weight loss, now I have a regular cycle and feel like a normal human being. If the ER version worked for you see about switching back. Can I ask why you went to the regular Met?
Good luck
Jenni

Hey Jenni,
I am sorry I never went on the reuglar metformin, I was started with Metformin XR with 500 mg for 2 weeks and then 1000 mg after that, but the nausea and the rapid heartbeat is not getting anybetter. Surprisingly the only thing that makes me feel better is ice cream from mcdonalds (so strange), and not to mention I cannot stand the sight nor smell of food since I started taking Metformin XR. So I called my doctor Friday night and she told me to stop taking it, I didnt take it last night, and I woke up today feeling "normal" No nausea =) I think Metformin XR is not for my body, I am going to call my doctor today and ask to be put on regular Metformin, lets see what happens.
