Default charley horse that wont go away !!

Two days ago I got a major charley horse in my leg. It woke me out and I could not move it hurt so much ! My whole leg started shaking ! When I finally manage to move and stand up it eased of but not for long. When it came back it never left, its not as strong I can move my leg but its very painful to walk on. What can I do to make it go away ??? HELP !!!

Eat bananas!!!! Potassium prevents leg cramps. I know it sounds goofy but it is true! I use to get major charlie horses that would wake me up in the middle of the night. If you eat potassium regularly it can help. But if you are on spiro or actos becarful cause those meds tend to make potassium "store" in your body... I take spiro and haven't had a charlie horse since I been on it.

for charley horse...spasms muscle cramp...PULL YOUR TOES BACK!
It works to release the spasms! You pull your toes BACK (DO NOT PUSH FORWARD!)

I am on spiro and I think it is helping me too in this area.

If you have a charley horse that will not go away you need to get to a doctor, it could be a blood clot forming and a blood clot in your leg can move to your heart and kill you. This almost happened to my mother, she got a charley horse one night and it wouldn't go away.... keep a close eye on your leg for any swelling or hard spots on your leg, also try and be aware of the circulation, and do not go to sleep until the charley horse is completely gone, even if it isn't a blood clot still be careful because it can cause permanant nerve damage and nerve damage in the legs is a lifetime of extreame pain. take care and I hope that everything is ok.

Thanks.

I did call my doctor and he told me it sounds like my nerve or muscle twisted. He had me rub Zostrix cream on it and in a day in eased off ! Now I still feel a bit of a pain but its getting much better !

A man I know has muscle spasms often. They are so bad that it wakes him up in the night and his wife says she can actually see the leg shaking. He said that they are painful charley horses and never had them until after a surgery on his back. Anyway, his doctor told him to take magnesium and calcium everyday. BTW, he is also diabetic. He no longer gets the shakey ones and they don't come as often, only when he has missed his supplements that day. I believe that charely horses are a combination of minerals and vitamins that our bodies are low on. If you are IR, the magnesium would help with IR and with the muscle spasms. My dh also has muscle spasms at night that wake me up and I am starting him on the calcium and magnesium. Just be careful, as with any vitamins or minerals, not to take too much. Otherwise you will just have them run (literally ) right out of you and that is no fun.
