Default Chemical hair straightening with PCOS?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board and look forward to sharing whatever advice I can.

In the meantime, if anyone has any advice with regard to my situation, I'd appreciate it --

I'd like to have thermal reconditioning/japanese hair straightening done on my hair. My hair was once very thick, now a lot thinner due to the PCOS, but still VERY frizzy and hard to handle. I know that getting it straightened will most likely make it look even thinner, but I don't think it'll be too bad, based on how it looks when I blow-dry it straight. Aesthetically, I do think it'll be better. But my question is more with regard to my hair loss and thinning -- is there any reason to think that with PCOS, the straightening can cause my hair to get any worse? My doctor said that he thinks it's fine, since it's not on the root but on the hair itself, but he didn't really seem to understand how the straightening worked, so I figured I'd ask here too.

Thanks!

I had this done years ago and to be honest it made my bald spots show more. I was thinking of doing the "Brazilian Straightening System" because it isn't as severe. I would be very cautious about the japanese straight if you have actual thinning and balding spots. Proceed with caution!
