Page 42 Fewer Miscarriages

A new study from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond found that women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome may be able to reduce their miscarriage risk by taking the diabetes drug metformin during pregnancy. Just 9% of women who received 1,000 to 2,000 milligrams of metformin daily suffered a miscarriage, compared to 40% of those who didn't take it. The drug seems to aid embryo transplantation and reduce male hormone levels, which have been linked to miscarriage, says study coauthor John Nestler, M.D.
