Oh I'm terribly angry right now. I just typed out all these questions for you Lisa and then this thing just did something funky and took me to another website. I am so mad. haha
I thank you so much for your answers. That means so much to me. I have sooooo many questions. When I seen that you replied I was sooooo happy! You dont know what it means to me!!!
Okay here are a few questions...
I know you have to be 30 right to adopt. That's both parents right?
Well I just turned 29 in Dec. So I'll be 30 this Dec. Does that mean I have to wait till I turn 30 to start the homestudy and everything or will they let me do the homestudy and then do the dossier after December?
Also when you do the tax credit. Will I be able to do that on next years taxes ya think (won't be turning 30 till Dec.) Or will I have to wait till the following year.
Will they be able to pretty much tell me the costs when I ask or will their be surprises? I think we're gonna depend on our other house selling and possilby borrowing against his 401K. So I really need to know a amount (i hope they tell us) I can deal with them saying a lil higher and it not being that amount but to tell us less and then want more I would freak out because we just don't have money laying around since we bought this other house.
Is there any surprises that I might not be aware of?
What are the ages of the children you adopt. We really want a girl of coarse. But do you know the age of the child? Are they usually under a year?
Oh yeah and how long is the plane travel there? I've never flown and the thought of it is making me sick but I think I can do it to go pick up my baby of coarse.
Oh yeah and what about Desi will I have to make arrangements for her to stay some where for the time we're gone to get the baby or will she be able to go to? How does that work?
I think that's everything I had typed out before but I don't know. haha I have so many questions!!! I thank you so much for your help! It means so much to me! I'm going to check out that website.
OH Do you have to go thru a agency that is in your state?
I live in Southern Illinois.
Talk to you soon. I appreciate all this.
Love,
Me

Lisa67--Your so good. You are just the best with getting back with me and supplying me with all of this good information. I loved reading what you said about the planes, that made me feel so much better! I've NEVER flown and FEAR it. But just reading what you said but me at a calm.
I looked up that agency and I thought that it said that they only do people in a certain radius of Chicago. I don't know if that is true or not, but that's what I thought it said. We live at the southern TIP of southern Illinois so I'm about 365 miles from Chicago actually. So if that's the case then we won't be able to use them I hope that's NOT the case tho.
Can "whoever" I want do the homestudy if we go thru that agency? (if we can) Reason I ask is the one that did Desi's is REALLY cheap and she used to work for DCFS and still does homestudies. So if that is the case, I could get her again. She is certified and all. What do you think?
I appreciate you so much. I hope that I'm not bugging you. :o hehe
((HUGS))
I think it would be "best" that I not take Desi especially with the bonding etc.
Oh Oh one other question. When we get there will be just get to visit with our baby girl a couple hours a day and then leave her again or how does that work, that has to be SO hard to do.
W/B when you get a chance girlie! TIA!!!
Will be checking in again "soon".

Is this true of all adoptions? or just the ones through China?

katydyd--that was specifically for China that you need to be 30 years old.

You have helped me out SOOO much! Your wonderful!!! I'm so nervous about the trip tho. I'm nuts! We're still considering our options. But I do love the fact that I won't have to let her go once we have her with us. That's awesome and I do like the fact that you travel in a group! That's good to!!!! Makes it so much better. I did get a email from CAWLI today from a Melanie. She was talking about us doing a homestudy, I'm gonna email her and ask her if the lady that did our last one could do this one.
I'll let you know what she says. Thanks so much. I'll have more questions I'm sure (giggling) ((Hugs))

Originally posted by Lisa67 I don't know about the homestudy thing--we used our agency and since they are here in MA we were all set. I mean, we had people from Iowa, Kentucky, all over the states and they all used our agency so they got their homestudy done somehow. I bet if you called CAWLI they could answer for you. They have a 1-800 # on their website. Give them a ring. Ask for Stephanie she is great! Although anyone who answers can help you out.
When you travel you will be with a whole group. We had 34 families in our group although that's on the larger side. Normally there will be about 15 or so. There is a YAHOO group for your "DTC" date and an agency email group too. Lots of support on the net. Lots of other YAHOO groups too. In fact, there is a waiting till 30 type group for those who are sure they are adopting from China but need to wait till 30! You should look for that one!
Once you receive your child you NEVER HAVE TO LET GO!!! The nannies will bring her to you and that's it! Lots of paperwork follows for the next 10 days in country but you don't leave her. She stays in your hotel room with you. All the rooms in China already had cribs in them--it was so cool!
Love these questions--keep askin' away!

I think the one you went thru would be the one that I go thru to because I can't seem to find anything that is under that amount.
I've been tossing it up between Guatemala and China. I can't decide what to do <shrug>
I know I can come up w/ the money to adopt from China, but I don't about Guatemala, it will take a lot longer for me. Unless God comes up w/ something good.

Our agency had the cheapest amount when we were looking for Emily and we love them so much there was no question this time around.
The agency you posted seems to run about the same but I have no recommendation for them.
Oh--another great thing our agency does that is somewhat unique....they send a doctor on each trip to check the babies out for you. They stay with you the whole trip in case any issues arise. It's a wonderful service.
Sick of these questions yet Lis? LOL I love asking you all these questions! haha <giggle> I look forward to seeing your replies and living this experiance thru your stories.
It sounds like a wonderful experiance and I have "time" to prepare myself for this "Plane" ride.
Okay here is another question I have....haha
I have read you have to take A LOT of crisp cash with you? That scares me, any tips with this one?
Should I get a credit card (I don't have one, never wanted one) to take for emergency?
Do I have to pack clothes for the child? Diapers? If so how do you know what size they wear?
Let's see, what would make a good gift to get for her and Desi to bring back that would last a life time. Hummm pearls woud be a neat thing to think about tho. I like that one.
I think this would be a experiance of a lifetime in so many ways! How exciting!!!
Thanks for answering all these questions. I think it's wonderful of you.

If you guys don't mind, I'd really love it if you could keep the question and answer sessions going on here instead of in email! DH and I are seriously considerring China for Sam's baby sister, but since we're only turning 29 now (me this month, him next month), we have quite a wait ahead of us. I'm loving the chance to just soak up so much information!
I'm not sure how reliable this is, but I had heard a while back that it was ok to start when you are 29 and a half, since you will be 30 by the time you get the child. Definitely double check on that though.
