Default Cholesterol

Well, the good news is my cholesterol is down!

The bad news is, that means even the cholesterol that's not supposed to be!

My doc called and left me a voice mail with my test results. Total cholesterol has dropped. LDL dropped too, by 30 points!

But the HDL also dropped slightly, from 55 to 46. Doc says the H "stands for happy" and we want it to be higher, and lower levels are symptomatic of PCOS. She blamed the drop on my "rapid weight loss" and said that should get better with time. Well, I don't call 26 pounds in six months and 22 pounds in 2 1/2 "rapid."

I don't know if it's the medication or the South Beach that explains the other numbers . . . my money is on a combo of both!

Anyway, any ideas on how to boost my HDL so she doesn't freak out over my "rapid weight loss" next time I see her?

Hi...I am not sure how to drop it either. Mine has always been up so I am with you. I hope by bumping this someone will see and give us advice. See you around.

Thumbs up Flax Seed

get some flax seed oil capsules and take one a day.

That should help.

Thanks for the suggestion! I did check on line, but all the suggestions they list (eat more olive oil, exercise, etc) I am already doing!

Only thing is, I seem to remember flax seed possibly having a negative impact on thyroid. Would Omega 3 or Fish Oil capsules do the same thing?

I just my cholesterol results back too. Total cholesterol was 180, LDL was 102, but HDL was 34. My doctor told me to take fish oil supplement 3x a day with meals to boost HDL. Hope this helps. By the way...no side effects so far.
