Lightbulb Christian Books: Suggestions, Please

Hi, can anybody suggest any authors who write Christian fiction? I'm a book lover. I'll read, at least once, almost anything in print. I'm seeking authors who write Christian fiction. Any suggestions? It can be romance, mystery, intrigue, suspense, thriller, adventure, comedy, etc. I'm seeking good, clean fun with a Christian slant. Can anybody help me, please & thank you much.
Later Days,
Linda S.

I'd be interested in these suggestions. Generally speaking, I don't read fiction (don't know why...been like that since I was a kid), but on the rare occasion I read a good fiction book, it makes me wonder why I don't read more.

Have you read The Da Vinci Code? It's challenges to Christian doctrine, are interesting, but I had to keep reminding myself, "this is fiction, for crying out loud."

It raises some interesting points that make for good conversation in Christian circles, imo.

It was a good read that I polished off in 2 days. You can have my copy, if you want...I'll never read it again - LOL!

I genreally don't read "christian" books, but afte seeing the Hallmark movie of this book, I ecided to read it. The Magic of Ordinary Days by Ann Howard Creel was a decent read. I love the WWII era, which this was set it, so that was what got my interested to begin with. She also wrote some of the American Girls books.

Again, I'm not too familiar with strictly Christian literature, but there's always Jan Karon's popular works. My grandmother loved Catherine Marshall. Of the top of my head I can think of Janette Oke, Beverly Lewis, Dee Henderson and Lahaye/Jenkins...

Sorry if this was too general for you!

I enjoy reading Terry Blackstock and Dee Henderson books. They are mystery novels. Frank Peretti books are good too. I hear that he has a new book out called Monster. I haven't read it but friends tell me it is really good.

Talking Thank You & Keep 'Em Coming

Dear Friends,
Thank you so very much for the suggestions. I'm hesistant to read The Da Vinci Code. The world challenges Christian doctrine daily. Kat, thank you for the offer, but maybe somebody else will be more interested in the book. I'm still meditating on The Yada Yada Prayer Group and The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Down by Neta Jackson. I loved those characters with all their "realness". I still haven't read the 3rd installment titled The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Real.
I love buying books for my nieces & nephews, a departure from the mind-numbing effects of video games & cartoons. I ordered this book for my 10 year old niece & nephew *twins* Secret of the Dragon Mark by Jeanette Windle. It's about 13 years twins sniffing out murder & intrigue. I went to visit them months later & read the book. I'm not ashamed to admit it. It was better than some of the books I had read lately. Children fiction has improved! My niece wants the whole series. She thinks I'm Bill Gates wealthy. Oh, kids, love 'em!!!!
Books Open Worlds,
Linda S.

No prob...if you change your mind, let me know! BTW, by the time I had finished the book, I clearly saw it for what it was - a piece of fiction. Most of these debates, and subsequent books on 'the Code' kind of baffle me. Why all this drama over a piece of fiction

Francine Rivers is an AWESOME author!! I just read Redeeming Love, and OMG- it was SOOO good!! It's actually from the book of Hosea in the Bible, but it's fiction.

Have you checked out the classics?? The Narnia Series (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, etc.) are wonderful for all ages, especially with the movie coming out this fall. Same auther, C. S. Lewis wrote a space trilogy series (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength) the first two of which were a great read, the last one was difficult to get through. G. K. Chesterton's Fr. Brown mysteries are fun too, rather insightful as well. And don't forget J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books. Haven't read them yet and my family is threatening to disown me!!
Enjoy!
Blessings, Kara

IMO, b/c arguments & public disagreements & strife make lots of sensationalize money for the publishers & media outlets. Why else do people/the public love to hear about celebrity divorces, but could'nt care any less about their family/friends? Instead, of counseling & supporting their loved ones, they literally cry, moan, groan, & wail over a celebrity they have never met. That baffles me! Can't we all just get along. Look, I made a funny. Sorry, sleep depreviation, forgive me, please.
Kara, I loved The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe as a child!!! I haven't read nor seen the LOTR, either. The family hasn't disowned me yet. I think.
Mel, I've wondered about Francine River's books, with your recommendation, she's now on my list.

I'm in a book club and we do a lot of Christian reading. The book THREE was well received in our book club -- a suspense / thriller type.
I enjoy just about anything by Patsy Clairmont -- she's a HOOT and usually the stories are short and there are just enough stopping points if you HAVE to put the book down to go to bed or grab something to eat!
Good luck and let us know what you find (and either love or hate)!

I love Francine Rivers! I'm into Historical Christian Fiction and Romance. Right now, my favorite author is Gilbert Morris. He has tons of books out and is really good! I also like Lori Copeland, Lori Wick and Judith Pella. I have a virtual library in the guest room! I get a lot of my books from Christianbook.com because they are reasonable and have way more titles than bookstores! Happy reading!

Andrea- I love Patsy Clairmont! Ever see her in person? I went to the Women of Faith conference two years ago and I loved her! She is so hysterically funny!

A book that picked me up from depression once was not a fictional book but by Joel Osteen called "Your best life now". It is so good, with many great stories relating to life and wonderful things. He is an amazing pastor of Lakewood church in Houston very profound teaching love yourself. Great book.
