Default Chromium Picolinate

Is anyone taking this?? I have read it can help with PCOS symptoms and food cravings.
Love to hear from anyone's experience with chromium picolinate.
Thanks,
Bonnie

I heard that as well. It supposedly will help you use your insulin better...its worth checking out!

It is compared to an over the counter version of Gluc/Met.

Have you searched the web for it?
Lots of info to be found there.

I LOVE IT!!!!! I am treating PCOS through the herbal remedie route, and I am taking it along with other things. It helps with cravings, and IR It helps me greatly!!!!!!! It is cheaper than met also and does pretty much the same thing.

Default My thoughts

I stopped taking Chromium Picolinate when I read that it causes cellular changes that can lead to cancer. There is another version of Chromium, called Chromium Polynicotate(sp?). This one isn't supposed to cause any problems, but I can't find it anywhere.

I switched to Alpha Lipoic Acid three times a day, and it worked great until my doc finally let me have Met (even though my insulin was in the normal range). Do NOT take them both.

Just curious as to why you shouldnt take met and alpha lipoic acid. I've been doing that...but now I'm concerned. Please share what you know. Thanks!

Default Met +ALA

They both lower insulin levels, so too much can lower the levels too far. Mine got too low a few times, and we couldn't figure out why until I told my doc about the ALA. Everything's fine now that I quit taking it, though. The same goes for Chromium.

BTW, my doc said that if you're taking one 200 mg ALA a day, you'd probably be fine. I was taking therapeutic levels (1000 mg a day). Just talk to your doc about it.

What is ALA? How do you buy it and take it?

Thanks for the tip and the site. Do you take this and where do you purchace your ALA? Do you combine it with anything. I currently take a multivit. with chromium, calcium magnesium and niacin for cholesterol.

Just a quick note about taking niacin if you are insulin resistant. Higher doses of niacin may increase insulin resistance. Something to keep in mind.

Default The PCOS Diet Book

by Collette Harris. This is where I got all of my information when I was starting out. She has sections devoted to different symptoms, and she lists herbs/vitamins/etc that help with it. Check your local library. Every system around here has it.
