Chromium picolinate is making my hair fall out . . . (x-posted in alternative remedies)
At least, this is my suspicion. I made a wholesale change in my diet and supplements a few weeks ago and noticed that I was feeling great, and then my hair started to fall out. I was losing much more than usual in the shower. My hair is really thick, so it's not noticable yet, but . . . aaaargh!!!! Of course, I started to completely freak out and I assumed that it was PCOS-related, but then I realized that the hair loss coincided with starting the supplements. I looked at what I was taking - Gaia Herbs Vitex Elixer, Chromium picolinate, inositol, and NAC - and found that women have reported hair loss with the chromium (when I searched the web). I also read that I should see the hair loss stop in about 3 days, if chromium is indeed the problem. I'll post back if anyone is interested.
There are some old threads on this board that address this topic, but I thought it was worth discussing again. In fact, I really think that there should be some kind of sticky about chromium and this side effect, since many women who already have PCOS-related hair loss may take chromium to increase insulin sensitivity. What do you all think? |
