I highly doubt this is PCOS related but I wanted to see if anyone else has had similar problems. A little over a month ago I got sick with an extreme case of bronchitis. After 4 different antibiotics and two IV treatments I'm finally getting over it...but for a week now I've been in debilitating pain. And the pain is all in my muscles and joints. The best way I can explain it is my whole body feels bruised. The slightest touch causes pain and it's pretty much all over with the only exceptions being my forearms/hands and calves/shins. Everything else hurts. I can't sleep because of the effort it takes to turn my body over during the night and I'm worn out during the day. My medicine has run its course so I wouldn't think it would be any side effect of that, and bronchitis shouldn't cause pain like this...so any ideas what it could be? I've dealt with ongoing fatigue before figuring it was related to PCOS, and since I just dealt with it I never brought it up with a doctor, but this is more than I can handle. Does anyone know if an illness can actually trigger something like chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia?

I was dx with fibro almost 10 years ago.
It's not a fun thing to deal with so I'm sorry to hear you have to deal with this pain.
I've never heard of an onset being triggered by an illness of any kind. Usually, if someone already has fibro, then it can trigger a flare up if there is some sort of physical injury or pain, like from a car accident or falling down...something like that. But you would have shown symptoms long before you got bronchitis.
I'm not too familiar with chronic fatigue...they thought before the fibro dx that might be what I had, but once they focused on the fibro I kind of shifted my focus as well. I have other helath problems, so spending anymore time and energy on another illness just isn't something I'm up for.
If you continue to have this intolerable pain, I would definately talk to your primary care / family doctor. I would be careful about mentioning fibro right off the bat since some docs are still a little skeptical about dx that. It takes a lot of tests to rule out many other things before they will narrow it down to fibro. I know that's probably not the answer you were hoping for!
It's never fun to be dx with something that is chronic (which I'm sure you know since dealing with pcos) but sometimes it's a relief just to get a final answer.
Wish I could be more help. All I can say is check out some info on fibro and see if maybe you had more symptoms than you realized for months beofre you got sick. Then you may have a little more info gathered before you head into your doctor. You'd be surprised how many things fibro can affect that seem completely unrelated.
Hope I helped a little!
Thanks for your reply eve. I actually have had problems with fatigue in the past and there was one point back in the fall when I told my husband I swore I had all the symptoms of fibro. I never talked to anyone else about it though. I've had some horrible experiences with doctors not telling me I had PCOS for years so I've pretty much written them all off when any other problem arises. I had mono 8 years ago and when I think about it I can see most of my symptoms began then, but mono doesn't last that long. :-/
*sigh* I guess it's off to the doctor today.

An illness can awaken many dormant conditions like fibromyalgia, lupus, etc. I've been treated for Lupus ever since I was a kid. I do get fibro pain, sensitive to touch and everything you described and I am tired a lot. Even if you think it might be nothing you should talk to your doctor. It could end up being a virus or one of those flu's. But, you should take care of it. Better safe than sorry.

Exactly. If you had mono before this recent illness may have triggered it. If I am not mistaken this is something that can happen.
Plus illnesses can make fibro worse, so can the weather. If it's too hot or too cold it can cause lots of pain.
Go to the Dr and I wish you the best of luck.

I had mono when I was 19 and a few years later I was not feeling right and was diagnosed with epstein barr virus which they think triggers chronic fatigure syndrome. I have been getting the same symptoms as I had with mono that many years back right now I'm on biaxin to see if that helps.
Thanks for all of your input guys. I'm really frustrated now and feeling confused because the doctor wasn't any help at all. I don't have a family care doctor exactly, but I always see the same doctor at this walk-in clinic I go to. It's convenient I guess which is why I never bothered to find a family practice.
Anyway, the doctor saw me and my husband come in and she said, "are you guys back again?!" like she was kind of annoyed that we were back. We've both been in and out over the past month dealing with bronchitis and she'd always been very nice and helpful every other time, so hearing that was a bit upsetting. When she finally came in the exam room she spent less than 3 minutes with me. Instead of checking my lymph nodes she asked me if they were swollen. I was taken aback but I told her no but they're tender to the touch...and wondered why she wouldn't look for herself. She acted rushed and annoyed the entire time which made me so flustered I wasn't able to describe every single thing I've been dealing with...so she said it was still my bronchitis (I swear I know the difference between flu-like pain/fatigue and this--this is different) and wrote me an Rx for muscle relaxers and sent me on my way. It was very upsetting.

I am going to have to go look up Chronic Fatigue. My doc mentioned it to me. I feel like I can never get enough sleep, even when I do. It sucks to always be tired.
I have M.E. (also known as CFS in the UK) and my symptoms are somewhat similar to what you describe. Everyone experiences it differently, for some people the cognitive symptoms are worse than the muscular/joint pain etc. I have suffered from it for 17 years and my symptoms have changed a bit as I have gone up and down in severity.
Perhaps you can register with a family doctor who can run a battery of tests and give you the proper time and attention you need? You should not be feeling like this. My friend currently has bronchitis and although she feels very tired, she has not mentioned anything like what you describe. It sounds a bit like mono! Have you been tested for that?

They haven't tested me for mono because I had it 8 years ago I guess. From what I remember, I feel worse from this than I did with mono. At least I don't remember the pain feeling this bad.

I think I have a mild case of CFS. My sister was told by her doctor she problaby has it.
One thing to consider also is RMSF or lyme disease. Muscle aches are listed as a long term problem in both. One relative of ours had a child who kept having such pain she couldn't walk. I think they finally dxed her with lyme disease.
You should go to the ER then. It seems like your doctor didn't pay much attention to you. If it is not something you can just sleep off, you should really find your way to somebody that will pay attention to your symptoms. Also, with your bronchitis, you may feel tired if your body is working hard to get rid of it. When I had bronchitis I was in bed for two weeks!!!

I was in bed for about that long with bronchitis. I had it for a month before it went away and ended up going to the ER to get an IV treatment to knock it out of me. But that's been well over a week ago. Could the medication have caused this pain?
