I was reading how taking 1/2 -3/4 tsp of cinnamon before meals can help lower your insulin levels (info from the PCOS research articles posted by Kat). So I was wondering, how do you take it? I can't imagine swallowing that much ground cinnamon. I just put it in my tea but it turns to slime. Does anyone here take it and if so, how?
Can you buy empty capsules (like med capsules)?? My mom said you used to be able to, but I don't know about nowadays...If so, you could put it in capsules.
I cannot IMAGINE trying to swallow it in powder form. My lips swell up if I eat too much of it and it burns my mouth up. I would be in a mess!!
Good luck! If you think of another way post it and I will give it a try too!!

I know you are following Atkins, so I guess it would be hard to come up with things to sprinkle the cinnamon on (oatmeal and yogurt may not be in your plan, unless you are on OWL and have upped your CCL). If you eat low carb bread, you could make cinnamon toast or french toast and sprinkle the cinnamon on that. Other options are to sprinkle in coffee or any protein shakes you might be using.

I use alot of cinnamon in cooking. It goes really well with beef, pork & chicken. Anytime you make chinese or mexican put a good bit in there it really enhances the flavor. Also you can sprinkle some on just about any kind of fruit you eat. Plus of course you can always make cinnamon toast for breakfast and get a good bit in there.
Karen: When I make tea with cinnamon I put it in first and then add a little hot water just enough to make a thin paste and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I add the tea and remaining water. It helps the cinnamon disolve better.
thanks for all the tips, especially on dissolving it in my tea! I cannot imagine trying to choke down the resulting slime if I can't get it to dissolve more than the other night! I do eat a LC breakfast of ground flax seeds and put cinnamon in that. Now I have a reason to add *more* cinnamon! I love the stuff! I'm not sure I can imagine it on my meat though....I *will* try it though. Once can't hurt! lol
I sent my dad's cousin (a man) the article about cinamon being got for IR; as he is both IR & diabetic (what a combo!).
He had been having alot of probs with his bsl constantly being too high. He has been doing cinamon now for a month and he has his bsl right under control.
Anyhow, his girls would not each much meat before, now they love meat - especially what they call "Dad's middle eastern bbq". (cinamon on chops, steaks, etc).
The last thing I read said that no significant difference was found between people who take a half teaspoon per day and those who take more.
I take it as a tea...dissolved as much as possible in boiling water, then I add vanilla or chocolate slender soy for sweetening and a protien punch. I keep stirring it while I drink and usually just down the last swallow.
I've only been at it for about two weeks, but this is my new morning routine.
