I have been reading through all of these posts, and I am excited!! I just hope that cinammon works for me like it has for some of you!!
About me: I am 38, dx with PCOS after years of being told I was just FAT and to lose weight in 2000. On Nov. 2nd I had a tubal reversal so getting my hormones in check is a must. I want to start TTC in 2008. I am on 500mg of Met (my Dr. did not want to give me the script because he did not know enough about PCOS, so then he would give me only 500mg per day). I started taking 500mg of cinammon last week and tolerated that well, so I uped my dose of cinammon to 1000mg. Thinking about going to 1500 next week. I also have taken Provera this last week to start AF. So I will have to wait until next mo. to see if she shows on her own!!
I am new here and I am very excited to give Cinnamon a try! I was Dx with PCOS in 2000 but had the symptom onset in 1990 at the age of 15. I was on Met for 4 months but never got any results and just could not tolerate the GI side effects. I am going to start taking 500mg 2x per day and work up to the 2000mgs a day. I have been TTC for about 11 years now. We are blessed to have one daughter from China and now hoping to add one more.
Hello, ladies. I am new here. I started to take cinnamon couple of days ago, 1000mg 2x's day. I love it! I feel so much better and I start to loose the weight again.
As a newbie I guess cinnamon works fine then? I eat cinnamon daily to my breakfast but the amount you need to eat to get a positive effect is that more than you can have on your breakfast porridge?

How long does it take for Cinnamon to start AF? Do you take it all the time, or just until AF starts? Also how much cinnamon do you take. I'm currently on day 95 of a super long cycle I want to end. Thanks for the help.
I am currently taking 2000 mg of cinn i started last saturday @ 1000 and raised it two days ago..i have not noticed anything different...how long does it take to start working? should i up my dose more? I am a BBW so do i need a higher dose?

I started taking cinnamon about 3 months ago and I'm very happy. From irregular-ish cycles (32-35 days) I'm spot on 28 days now.
I have noticed a lot of improvement on my symptoms: less cravings for carbs and sweets, a lot less abdominal pain when AF is about to turn up, less acne, less body hair, less scalp hair loss, less mood swings, AF is around for only 4-5 days as oppossed to 7-8 days before, I have more energy. About the weight loss, I was about 20 pounds overweight when I started taking the cinnamon and very slowly, with absolutely no diet at all I have lost 4 pounds, not loads but there you go.
I take 500 mgr of cinnamon with every meal, that totals up to 1.5 gr a day. I started taking the recommended dose (on the bottle) of 1 gr twice daily, but my blood sugars went too low after breakfast and I was feeling dizzy. The .5 gr with every meal seems to work fine so far.
Also, my right ovary which has been really quiet for years has started to twinge a little around ovulation day for two cycles now. The left one has slowed down a lot and it is not painful around that area when AF turns up.
This is just what I can feel and see, no GP has verified any of this, but in general I am a happier person and I feel I can cope with PCOS better with the help of cinnamon than without.
Hey ladies. It's been awhile since I posted here. I tried cinnamon for one cycle about a year ago before my RE put me on metformin. Don't know if it was a fluke or not but that cycle I managed to O a lot earlier than I'm used to. Well the very next cycle I was put on metformin 1500mg and got pregnant right away. Our son arrived mid-October and my first postpartum AF arrived about 3 weeks ago. I've been charting to avoid because I don't want hormonal BC and I'm on day 23 of my cycle and still no O. So of course I'm thinking my PCOS is back in full force which SUCKS!
Well to my question. I'd really like to try the cinnamon again before asking to be put on metformin. Should I wait until my next cycle to start or should I start now? I still have cinnamon from a year ago, do you think its still any good or should I just go buy a new bottle.

Cinnamon contains Coumarin that causes liver damage
Girls, I hope you know that both ceylon cinnamon and cassia contains Coumarin a substance that causes liver damage.
Normal use isn't considered dangerous but high doses is not to recommend according to the Swedish National food administration. But in Sweden small children is recommended no more than 3 gingerbread at a time.
The threshold value is 2 mg Coumarin per kg food or drinks in the EEC. According to the EEC's aroma directive 88/388, Annex II.

I'd give it at least 2 full weeks...if not a full month.
