cinnamon can be used to help naturally process insulin. I am a normal weight cyster w/ high testosterone and LH/FSH really out of wack and have read that even if your not IR, your androgenic pathways may be hyper sensitive to insulin which may cause spike in testosterone, etc. I take 2000mg a day w/ meals. I lost @ 5lbs since taking it, I'm also paying attention to my carb-protein ratio.

Traditional Chinese herbs, Cinnamon @ 2000 mg; Apple cider vinegar - using as salad dressing every night; Omega 3 fish oil; folic acid & vitamin Bs; glucosamine chondroitin - to cushion all the high impact aerobics!
There are lots of stories about cysters using cinnamon to regulate their blood sugars (me included). Do a search of the forum and you will find loads of information.
Cinnamon has helped reduce my symptoms considerably, I also watch my carb/sugar intake.

Michelle - I saw about a 8-9 mg/dl drop in my blood sugar levels when I started taking 3g of cinnamon a day in the Pre-Ov timeframe, which was the same level as what 1000g regular Met/day did to my BS levels. One note of caution, if you are TTCing, you will want to avoid excessive amounts of cinnamon in the 2WW as it can raise your risk of miscarriage. You can search cinnamon and miscarriage on this Alt Remedy forum to get the thread that discusses this and provides the reseach article that drove the discussion. HTH Dianna

Cinnamon is a new concept to help with diabetes management. It seems to work for some people and not for others.
My only concern is that there is nothing that provides solid evidence that it will work. Also there is various information on the amount of cinnamon required and which form would be the best to take.
But for those who wish to try it, I wish you luck that it will assist with your manaagement.
hello ladies i have a question dose spearment tea and cinnamon do the same thing?
No, they don't. Cinnamon potentiates insulin action (so that less insulin is needed to process glucose) and spearmint tea is used as an antiandrogen, binds to free testosterone or DHEA and gets it out of the body so your testosterone related symptoms are a bit better (i.e. hair growth, hair loss, acne, etc.)
Cinnamon reduces the amount of free insulin in your blood, which may in turn reduce the amount of testosterone produced by your body because they are related in some way (i'm still trying to figure this out)
Hope it helps!

Hey, I don't know much about cinnimon bark really, but you can find helpfull info out there.
I've been using cinnimon bark since august, works a treat!
However, mouth ulcers can be a side-effect of cinnimon bark if taken excessively or too potent a dose and as I'm a rundown person I've always been quite prone to them in anyway so I'm not possitive its the bark in my case.
I take it about 2 weeks before ovulation in tea or ground and then sparingly or not at all at other times . (I would take it more but i'm terrible at rememberring for any type of meds!)
I went from going 6 mnths to a year + without menstruating previously, was diagnosed a yr ago in feb and i still know so little !
Also (OT I know!) having laser treatment on the arms, neck and upper lip , having it done in a college which is a great relaxed, casual atmosphere for me and a brilliant idea if people need to keep costs down !
hey, as its for training purposes its a free service, can get hot stone massage/ body wraps etc. done too for nothing, its quite handy. hope the results will be the same tho, but hey not like i'll be short any funds for trying!
for cinnamon bark Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine (by Jennifer Wurges) seemed good.
cinnamon did wonders for me. I had ultrasound done recently and now i dont have any cycts anymore in my ovaries. i didnt do anything else, so it must be cinnamon which i ve been taking for some time now (2000mg a day). I also just started taking fish oil and its done alot for me too, especially my ADHD and fibromyalgia.
I have noticed that with cinnamon, and also low carb healthy diet, Even if i dont loose weight, the PCOS related puffiness on my face and body goes away and i can fit in my clothes. I am already thin so maybe thats why i dont loose weight more than 2 or 3 pounds. I have also noticed that when i stop taking cinnamon for a week, the puffiness comes back. When i started taking it, i didnt see any big difference for maybe a month but after that it gave me energy.
I took cinnamon (cassia) capsules for just two days back when I was on a Metformin break due to toilet issues. I ingested one capsule of CVS brand cinnamon each time, that's it. I stopped because I got a body-wide pink rash that was SO itchy and felt hot. Not hives like a reg. allergic thing but slowly turned pink over a few days. The bummer is that now whenever I eat anything with more than a smidge of cinnamon I get itchy again, though not pink all over. I used to enjoy cinnamon without limitation!
