I would say use the regular cinnamon...not the cinnamon sugar. I would think that the cinnamon sugar and sugar in it and that is not something you need...I am on insulin and metformin and I sprinkle cinnamon on my cereal in the morning and sometimes in my lemonade. So yes, its okay to have cinnamon while on metformin.

It would be the cinnamon, NOT the cinnamon sugar. Cinnamon sugar is used for baking, or putting on toast, pancakes, waffles, etc.

HTH!

I've been taking cinnamon pills for almost a year now and feel better on days that I take them then on days where I forget.

I'm at the end of my rope. Last year I saw an endo on the advice of my gyno and he said I am not hyperthyroid nor do I have insulin resistance. I went to him because no matter that I watched what I ate, walked every day, and exercised for 30 mins. every night, the weight came off so slowly.

Recently I went to a new GP and she checked my blood sugar, etc., and said everything is normal. Then why in the world can I lose one pound in three weeks, yet gain six pounds in one week? It's like a never ending battle of the bulge. My weigt will not drop off and I think it's because I haven't been on glucophage in over a year. I've gained 30 pounds in a year and a half!

I was using cinnamon for a while, but it seemed like it had me going to the bathroom (to pee) every 30 mins. Then I read an article that mentioned that sprinkling cinnamon on or in food is not the same as taking a pill. I'm so confused and at the end of my rope. I want to drop 30 pounds but just don't see it happening. I go back to that GP next week and will tell her how frustrated I am. In the meantime, should I start taking cinnamon capsules again?

ETA: I have always had very high cholesterol and now I have high blood pressure. I've never had high blood pressure before, but it could have been because I was on met for almost a decade.

Magiccitymama,

About the constant peeing with cinnamon, I experienced that the first few days I started taking it, then it went away and I have been normal, since.

I have had a lot of trouble losing weight as well, all my life. Cinnamon does help a little (I am IR), but what has worked wonders for me is more sugar/carb reduction. It is the only thing that I really watch on my diet, otherwise I eat what I want: fruit, veg, protein (not too much of the bad fatty proteins) and I will pig out occasionally, nevertheless, my weight has been steadily going down for the last past year, not quickly, but steadily and with not too many worries.

Maybe you want to try taking cinnamon again?

Mariela, thanks for the reply. I started taking cinnamon again tonight and will continue to do so. I'm still going to keep on with the exercising and watching my calories. I probably do need to eat more whole foods and cut out the sweets. What really helped me lose weight last year is that I didn't eat after dinner. Nothing. That seemed to do wonders and I glanced at an article today that mentioned how some weight loss occurs at night while we're sleeping, and if we pig out at night that prevents it from happening. I wish I had had time to read the entire article.

magiccitymama, I saw the article as well a while ago. I think that if you're done with eating at least 3 hours before going to bed you're cool for the overnight natural weigthloss. I'll have to read the thing again. Have you started taking cinnamon again?

MsStang65, I have been taking cinnamon capsules for a year. I find it easier to take than sprinkling it over food. I really feel well, so if you can get the walmart capsules, go for it, and then tell us how you're doing.
