I have severe hair loss (male pattern baldness). Several people have told me that I should go without washing my hair for a few days and let it get really greasy. But I have read that those of us with severely thinning hair should wash our hair daily. I would appreciate any advice and/or comments that you have.
Thank you!!!!

I've read conflicting views on this. First is that you should wash you hair every couple days as the shampoo strips you of natural oils that nourish the hair. Second view is that you should wash your hair every day as the oil secretion contains testosterone which will reenter your scalp causing more problems. Back in the day I used to follow the first view but now I go with the latter as I get super oily scalp by the end of the day.
Don't know about you ladies, but not washing myu hair daily is not really an option for me anyway - my hair get's very greasy very fast, and the greasier it gets. the streakier it gets, and if it is streaky, it doesn't cover my scalp enough to be out in public, let alone at work.
My hari dresser recommended a shampoo and lotion thing that says it should be applied twice a day even. Now, that's going to far, I use it once a day... that's enough hassle. The hair does get pretty dry though if you wash it every day (I have long hair).

i know, cant win either way. I wet my hair every day, (or else my hair looks like marge simpson) and properly wash it with shampoo about 2-3 times a week. But in the summer i wash every day. still get lots of hair loss, either way.

Befor the Spiro my hair and face were very oily. I had to shampoo everyday. I did try one shampoo which I liked and it was Neutrogena T/Sal. I would use it every couple of days and it helped clear my scalp of that nasty sebum. Now that I am on Spiro my hair and skin are no longer oily.

what coincidence. A few minutes ago I was reading an advertisement on some haircare service and the first thing it states is oil accumulation due to infrequent washing prevents new hair from growing. After I put down the papers I came by the pc and there it is, this thread was staring at me. A hint to tell me to wash more frequently?
Well, months ago my dermatologist prescribed me a lotion and shampoo which I was supposed to use daily. I did it religiously till eventually it became a little tough to keep up... I dislike my very dry and brittle hair, and having a small toddler means that sometimes I don't have the luxury to wash those long hair every day unless I do it very late at night. These past weeks my scalp is getting very greasy and oily the very next day after washing. so I guess it's about time I give it a daily wash! Just pray that it don't cause more hair to drop off.
I am on the oppostie end. I stopped washing as frequently and I have had vast improvement in my hair quality and quantity. There was a definet adjustment period, and when I wash, I still use Nioxin - but I am down to washing about once a week.

I can't wash my hair everyday. It seems to dry out my hair. I have also found that since not washing my hair as often that my hair doesn't fall out as much.
