Coming from someone who has had PCOS since I was 12, I am now 27 and expecting my first little girl!. I can only tell you that after trying EVERYTHING possible for acne and other symptoms( accutane spiro, every antibiotic topical and oral) I have realized you have to treat the underlying condition if you want to sustain long term results. It was my PCOS that made my decision to be a medical esthetician very easy. I needed to help people with the superficial aspects of this horrible condition. There is not one person that can tell I have PCOS . I am known as the girl with the "perfect skin" and I have all other symptoms under control as I have been getting treatment for 12 years. After many years of personal research I can tell you what works for me and what I recommend to EVERYONE.

1. Metformin
2. Birth control( if tolerated) either Dianne 35 or Yasmin( now YAZ too)
3. Estrogen Patches( if not ttc)
4. Good diet/ exercise
5. Daily digestive enzymes and probiotics
6. A skin care program gentle enough for daily use( I love Murad acne complex kit) Most Dr prescribed kits, Obagi, Skin TX, etc are also great.
7. A topical exfoliant ( retin A, Tazorac etc for cell renewal)
8. SUNSCREEN
9. Plenty of water.
10. A realization that you need to stay on meds for the long term to see results, and there is no use taking something unless it is meant to help permanently reduce symptoms. You become resistant to antibiotics and eventually have to stop taking them or increase dosage.

I hope this helps, especially if you have to pay for things out of pocket like I used to!.

Best of luck. p.s to answer you question your med is a topical antibiotic of clindamycine and benzoyl peroxide. Use whatever you need in the short term before you find you own "routine" to prevent scarring.

I may be using this - the stuff I'm using is called Clindagel. It's probably just a generic or pet name for the stuff.

I just use it on acne cysts and that when they pop up - I don't use a lot. It helps a little on top of what I'm doing with the Obagi.

I used the same thing. It was 1% clindamycin (sp?) and 5% benzoyl peroxide. It stopped my acne but my face turned as dry as sandpaper. Also the bp bleaches fabrics so you have to be careful...I have white spots on my towels and bathroom rugs from it. Right now I am using a generic form of cleocin...or something like that. It's a lotion. It's only the antibiodic without bp. That's working fairly well for me. I still get a couple of zits but not as much as I was getting prior to using it.

I would also recommend birth control. I can't use it now because I'm ttc but I plan to go on it later.
