I'd love to hear everyone's opinions, please! I need to make a decision within the next week, lol.
If you read my post in the TTC forum about my appointment update, my new OB/GYN is willing to start me at 150mg of Clomid & take me all the way to 250mg if need be, or I can have the Femara if I want it.
I did 2 rounds of Clomid last year, 50mg & 100mg. Neither worked & I didn't get a bleed. I've heard a lot of positive things about those getting pregnant using Femara. (without trigger, without IUI, etc) How do you feel about it? Hubby goes for another SA this week & after that I have the choice to choose either so I'm wanting to know from those who are experienced with one or the other, or maybe even both!
Thanks

When I went to my RE, he said he doesn't even prescribe Clomid anymore because Femera is so much better. I have not tried it myself, but if I had the choice, I would chose Femera.

Thanks for your response! A lot of my friends from one of my other message boards told me it was better than the Clomid, too. I am glad to hear it from another PCOS'er as well Thanks a lot!
Another question ... If I do get pregnant when I start my first round of the Femara (or however you spell it) & happen to get pregnant, is there anything I could take or that I should suggest to my Dr. to make sure it implants and/or sticks? I had an ectopic in the past & my progesterone levels were very low at that time, obviously. I just want to make it happen, lol.

Some people use natural progesterone cream on the later half of their cycle. Some people start on day 15 and will use it for a week or so. Check with your doctor, she should be able to give you more info hopefully.

I was researching the Femara last night - there's a lot of controversy & I am now a little skeptical but it seems to work a lot better than the Clomid, or from what I am reading it does. I sure hope we can conceive with the Femara & that I or our child doesn't have medical problems due to it.
I think 1st cycle I'll just take the Femara & use Preseed to see how it does. I may temp as well. Haven't decided, lol.

I did Femara and O'd on it. I did Clomid and O'd on it. I liked Femara better, less hot flashes and the like. The cycle we got pg I did neither, but I did start Prometrium 200 AFTER I confirmed ovulation (if you begin it before you may stop O). I continued until week 32. Some cysters do progesterone in oil shots once pg is confirmed. NOT the same as depo!
And I'd absolutely temp, use CM, the whole bit to track ovulation. Timing is everything! On the Clomid I actually O'd on day 12, only 6 days after stopping Clomid. I wouldn't have known if I just counted the days.

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
I did 3 rounds of clomid 150mg...nothing. I switched to an RE who switched me to Femera feeling it was better than clomid which he no longer uses...must say...much better than the clomid side effects for me! I am on cd 26 with some very light spotting so I am hoping this is it but who knows. I showed 2 large follicles this month on it so just waiting...
*edited..Dr switched me to Femera not Clomid...where is my brain??

I'm really happy with the Femara so far. I had no success on Clomid in years past and always had to take Provera to trigger a period, but on my first round of Femara I did O (according to temp chart, ovulation predictor strip, and other body signs), and I got my period 13 days after O without any further med help! I am thrilled. I'm very hopeful this month.

I am very concerned with the use of Femara. So much so that I did also do some research and contacted a friend who has friends studying specifically in this field.
These are her findings :
************************************************
Okay, so I know the director of our research institute who is also a world renowned expert in reproduction. She says "its very controversial" and that, if I'm reading between the lines, she wouldn't want her daughters to take it for fertility treatment.
What a horrible position for you to be in!
Have you exhausted all other, more established methods of ovulation enhancement???
I'll keep you posted if I learn more.
I have been prescribed Metformin and Femara, and to take Prometrium after ovulation. I'm very concerned about the Femara, so much so, that it gives me anxiety.
I talked to my Fertility clinic yesterday and they kept trying to ensure me it's ok, but I am still not convinced.
I haven't started it yet, and I likely won't - but i'm torn.
this is from 2005, but this is what I found:
