How much Met are you taking? Why won't your doc just up your clomid dose? Does he monitor your ovaries via ultrasound to check for follicular growth? Sorry for so many questions...just curious about your situation.

I started the whole TTC process by going on 1500 of met. Then I did provera and 50mg of clomid, which did nothing for me. So the following month, I took provera again, to bring on AF and then 100mg of clomid. Like magic, follicles grew, one became dominant so that led to and hcg trigger shot and nine months later a baby! I hope this helps. I'd like to see you on 100mg at this point bc it seems like you didn't respond to the 50mg.

Lots of luck to you!

The first month I was on Clomid, I ovulated. Then the next month I didn't on the same dosage. Then on the third month (still on the same dosage) I ovulate dand became pregnant. So don't give up yet, it still could happen. I would say if it doesn't this month then for sure tell your dr of your concerns and have the dosage increased. Hope that helps you feel a little better.

He might not want to increase the dosage b/c of something call OHSS (ovarian-hyper stimulation syndrome), which I heard can be very painful and you could end up in the hospital. I had asked my dr to increase mine and that's what she told me. Wait for your next cycle, if you don't O then ask him to increase it. I've been taking met 1500mg since April and I never O'ed just on that alone. Maybe the dr thinks because you are on both meds, you may O this next cycle.

I take 500mg of Met once a day. He has done nothing to moniter the follicular growth. BUT this cycle he is having be get a blood test on day 21 to check for ovualtion. I feel as though the next step would have been 100mg. I am glad that some of you have been in similar shoes. I am at my wits end with this 'problem' and I just want to be normal.
on a side note, My husband and I started ttc in november/ decmeber of last year and I told him that I absolutely didn't want to have another summber baby, (both our kids are born in August 3 weeks apart) AND...well. IT appears as though we very well may have YET another summer baby. No complaints, but what an irony. Too funny!

Thanks all for your advise, coming here makes me feel soo understood!

I ovulated on 50mg of Clomid for 3 cycles and didn't get pregnant. I know my RE won't up the dose of Clomid if you did ovulate. Something to do with if you are ovulating on a certain dose level, increasing does no benefit but actually can have a negative effect like a birth control pill. I posted a while back regarding something similar--when I saw my Ob/Gyn she gave me 50 mg and said I didn't O, then she gave me 100mg and said I didn't O. Then I started seeing the RE and he started me on 50mg. I was like is this a mistake--I need to be one 150mg. But not the case as I have O'd on just 50mg.

The Met dose could be higher 850mg x2day is what I thought the standard was--I also asked my RE to up my Met dose from 1700mg to 2000mg but he didn't think I needed too.

Seems like the message of my post is more isn't always better....

Good luck!

Thank for your help Corgimommy, That is what I was thinking..SO maybe next month will be 100mg if I don't ovulate again. I am going to talk details with the doctor about the Met, When ever I miss my period (everymonth..lol) I get swelling, weight gain and such, THEN after we make my period come I loose the weight. Which makes me think that my insulin resistance is perhaps worse then I thought. I will keep you all updated on what he says I am going to call on monday and talk t o them and see what happens.

I took clomid last cycle, for the first time and I didn't O. Don't know why..my period never came and I had to have the provera to start AGAIN!

It's not automatic that clomid or any certain dosage will work for you. Everyone is different.

My doctor wouldn't up my dose yet. He wanted to wait till next month

Usually they want to try you at the lowest dose for a few months and go up from there.

and he has be doing a test to see if I O on CD21. Does that sound right..

He is testing your progesterone to see if you O, which is very important to be at a certain level to get pg and sustain pregnancy.

am I wasting my money..

It doesnt sound like it to me. It sounds like he's trying to find out how your body works and what is the best treatment and dosage for you. Thats something to be happy about because many many doctors dont take the time or know about PCOS. My fertility doc. never even mentioned progesterone to me when I was going through treatments. I will request the tests for it if I have to go through treatment again. I think your money is very well spent! Good luck to you!

ETA: I would ask to up your met dose to 1000mg though. How long have you been taking met?

I havebeen taking it for about 4 months I think....maybe 3. At first I saw a change..I acutally felt rested. I felt that I lost weight too...but that feeling has passed. So I will be contacting him about a increased dosage.

Thanks for all your help hon. I had to fight fight fight for a diagnosis of PCOS I went to three doctors and finally found out something!

Definitely try to get your Met increased. 1500mg was my dose and it very common for lots of women on this board. I felt the best I ever have when I was taking the 1500 of met...for the first time in decades, I felt like how I'm supposed to feel, KWIM?

I know exactly how you feel. Hang in there. You are taking charge of your health now and that's what's most important.

It's good that your doc is doing blood work for your progesterone. Will he also do u/s of your ovaires to see if follies are growing?

Maybe the increased dose of Met would make the 50mg of clomid work for you? It's worth a try.

Hang in there!
