Default Clomid/IUI Success? New Thin Cyster

I have been looking at the posts from this site for awhile but finally decided to join. I want so badly to connect with people who understand PCOS. My husband and I have been struggling with secondary infertility for about 1 1/2 years now. We have a 2 1/2 year old daughter who we conceived on the third round of clomid 100 treatments and 1 1/2 years of trying. In the fall of 2007 we got a BFP but it ended quickly in a miscarriage. We have been trying ever since. I did seven months of clomid 5 rounds at 50 and then two rounds at 100. I ovulated on five of the cycles. My OB kept asking me why I wasn't getting pregnant, good question....

In the last few months I started to go to a fertility doc who ran a series of tests to verify that I have PCOS. I am a thin cyster, 5'7 122 lbs. I have always been very lean. After a series of tests we found that I have one blocked fallopian tube and one that is clear. My FSH levels are at 6 and my lining is good. My testosterone is at 99. The doc did say that my ovaries are severe PCOS and recently encouraged IVF or ovarian drilling. My DH and I just can't afford IVF at this time and are very leery of ovarian drilling. I am starting metformin and hoping to try IUI/clomid first with US monitoring so we can perform the IUI when I ovulate on my unblocked side. Logically it feels like this may work work because I have had one kiddo and had verified ovulation five out out of seven tries this past year. We just didn't know I had one blocked tube at the time.

Sorry for the long rant but I feel like I have no one around me who can relate and I wanted to see if anyone else is in a similar situation? I am so very grateful that I have one kiddo but still would love to have another one. Everyone around me keeps getting pregnant right away and keeps asking when I am going to have another. I am sick of this state of limbo and wish I could look into a crystal ball and know if I will get prego eventually or if I should just move on.

My question is, has anyone had sucessful IUI/clomid treatments with one blocked tube and severe PCOS ovaries? I am also looking for suggetions to help lower my testosterone levels in addition to taking metformin. Does excercise work, eating certain foods? I have to be careful because I don't want to loose more weight.

Thanks for listening......hopefully I can help lend support to others too.

nicsavoie,
I just wanted to say that I am in a similar situation, with a (relatively) easy time conceiving my 1st, and ttc #2 is proving much harder. I haven't had as much workup as you have, so I don't have any specific advice on the clomid/IUI question. Sounds like a very reasonable option though. I'm trying to lose a little weight to decrease my testosterone levels, but I'm not nearly as thin as you are. just wanted you to know that you're not alone.

Thanks for the response. Hopefully the higher dosage of clomid will do the trick for you. How old is your peanut? I am taking a month off too to wait for the metformin to kick in and hopefully work some of its magic (fingers crossed). Best of luck to you!!

nicsavoie,
DS is almost 2 1/2, so they are about the same age. He is so much fun. I think we are going to spoil him too much, so I really hope we can have a brother or sister for him soon.
Good luck to you too.
