Hi everyone! I'm new to the blog b/c I had no idea there were so many thin cysters out there! I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2004 and since then have felt so alone b/c none of my girlfriends and family members have ever had any problems TTC--as a matter of fact, my younger sister just found out she's 10 weeks prego after trying for 3 weeks. My DH and I have been TTC naturally for the past 4 years but nothing's happened so we finally decided to try out clomid but since my cycles are so irregular, it's taken 8 mos just to finally be able to start my first round. Yesterday was CD5 for me and took my first 50mg dose of clomid last night--I too am excited but nervous after reading about all the side effects. I've had to take provera to induce my last AF and I turned into an emotional monster so I'm hoping I don't get like that again!
I'm so glad to have found you all here and reading all your stories has given me a sense of belonging and hope!
Quick question--has anyone started with a lower than 50mg dose of clomid (25mg)?? The reason I'm asking is that I've read that thinner women may be able to use 25mg for their first round but my doctor keeps telling me that BMI shouldn't affect the dosage. Since this is my first time taking it, I was just curious...
Yes, some girls seem to have really bad s/e from clomid, but I wouldn't worry about it... you won't know how you will react until you actually get on it for a few days. A lot of girls have no s/e from clomid. Luckily I'm one of them, I've had no problems whatsoever with it - in fact, I probably even feel a little better/balanced than normal. Hopefully you are the same!
I have also heard about 25mgs of clomid working for some women, but I really wouldn't want to go that low unless I was regularly ovulating on my own. (you may have read that ovulating women take clomid to produce more than one follicle) I don't even know if they make the pill in that low of a dose... would you be cutting a 50mg pill in half? Anyways, if you aren't having an AF for 8 months I'm *guessing* your ovaries will need more of a "nudge" than 25 mgs would provide. IMO, 50mgs is a great place to start!
Good luck!

Thanks for the helpful info pikachu! Yes, I'm hoping I don't have too many s/e from my first round--last night as soon as I took my first pill, I could immediately tell something was different. All night long, I felt dizzy and woozy but during the day I've been fine so far! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Ebmcyster - I have used 25mg of clomid before. I did ovulate on it, so I guess it worked in that sense, although I did not get pregnant. I can't remember how many cycles I did that. I think about 2 before I went up to 50mg. I had to cut the pill in half. I had twins on 100mg and I was afraid for more twins, so I started out really low. Now it's been 3 years and I'm desperate enough that I'm thinking another set of twins wouldn't be so bad.
I really hope the clomid works for you! BTW, I didn't really have any major side effects.

klking--I appreciate you sharing your experience with taking the lower dose--my RE discouraged me from starting any lower than 50mg so I'm going to take his advice as I start out--what do I know anyway?! I'm hoping I'll at least be able to ovulate normally this month. Best of luck to you--even if that may mean another set of twins!! I wouldn't mind multiples myself either!
