Question Is Clomid the next option?

So my gyn started me on Metformin 1500mg in June with a follow up appt Aug 26thish. I still have not had AF.... last one was in March 09. At the appt she put me on Met she said the next appt she would be starting me on Clomid. If I haven't had AF, is Clomid the next step? Do I need to start having a cycle before I would ovulate? Another random question...if I would somehow miraculously O, are there any negative effects of becoming preggers when I haven't had a period in so long? Thanks!!

I'm going to do my best to answer your question. Clomid will not bring your period, it will possibly help you ovulate. You won't be able to take the clomid until you get AF. Therefore your doctor may need to do something besides met. to induce your period. They typically put me on Provera for 10 days to help me get AF (which typically occurs a few days after you finish the Provera). The first day you start your period will be cycle day one...and your doctor will typically prescribe you to take Clomid on either CD3-7 or CD5-9. Clomid will then hopefully get you to ovulate so there will be no need for the Provera. The metformin will also help to keep your cycles regular.

As far as I know, there isn't any harm in getting pregnant after a really long cycle.

I hope this helps. It's all so confusing. Best of luck to you...
Erika

Thanks Ruby! This helps me know what to expect.... always feel like never exactly know what's going on and what will happen next.

I was also on 1500mg of met for quite some time with no period. My gyn put me on Clomid in June (100mg) and told me to start taking it right away, even without a period. He told me to take it the same day each month but if I started my period then I was to take it day 5-9. Well, after 2 rounds of Clomid, I actually started my period last week (first one in a year!!) And, day 5 of my period actually fell on the 10th, which was the same day I started Clomid the previous 2 months! I hope this makes sense..lol. I actually feel like I have some hope right now! I hope this helps you!

For many doctors, Clomid is now the FIRST step.
