Points: 1,188.85 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,188.85 | On Clomid, Ovulating, and NOT Preggo yet? I was just dx. with PCOS last month (April of 08). I'm 30, and have alrready been blessed with a beautiful son who will be 4 in August. I conceived very easily with my son 5 years ago. PCOS seems to be a fairly new development for me - I guess timing is everything. Anyway, we started trying for #2 in January and after a month or two, I started using my ClearBlue Fertility Monitor (which I used when I got pg with my son). Well, I noticed I wasn't ovulating, got tested, and poof! I have PCOS. Anyway, my symptoms are pretty mild. Up until recently, my periods had been very predictable and when I was tested my testosterone was in the 80's (which isn't too bad from what I read). Anyway, I was put on 1500 mg of Met daily along with 50 mg Clomid on days 3-7. Low and behold, I did ovulate on days 14 and 15 according to my monitor. I'm now on day 28 of my cycle and starting to get the onset of my period (which confirms that I did in fact ovulate and that my luteal phase was normal - all good news - the only bad news is that I'm not preggo). I spoke to my doctor this am (she has PCOS too which is really nice to have an understanding doctor), and is keeping me on the same dose of Clomid for the next cycle since I did ovulate. Ok, so the point of my post is this... It seems like on many of the posts I've been reading that as soon as you finally ovulate you get pg right away! Has anyone ovulated on these drugs and not yet conceived? I'm feeling quite down and am happy to have found this forum. Thanks for any advice or thoughts in advance. Jackie |

I took Clomid before (twice) and got preg fast.
It is hard to get pregnant, even if you are Oing perfectly. It is only a 30% chance. Your body has to be just right, so don't dispair. Just keep trying.
I know, I am telling myself the same thing. those bfn suck.

So glad you found this forum. It really has been a lifesaver. And what a blessing that you're dr is also PCOS!
Well to answer your question.. Yes! Its very possible. As you indicated, timing is everything! You can ovulate consistently month after month but if the sperm is not there waiting for the eggie.. it's not going to do any good. It's a good thing you have idea of when you possibly did ovulate. I know for me when I got pregnant with my son, it took one round of clomid and timed intercourse..
This time around.. It took 3 rounds of clomid before I got pregnant. I figured out that I usually ovulate between cycle days 15 and 16 so I began having intercourse every other day from cycle day 12 thru 20 just to make sure I cover my bases both before and after ovulation.. Lo and behold.. I did get my positive pregnancy test!
You will too.. Figure out a game plan that works well for your ovulation.. usually try to have sex BEFORE ovulation this way the sperm is there waiting.. Sperm can live inside friendly cervical fluid ina womans body for up to 5 days whereas the egg is only viable for 24 hours after ovulation so it's sooo important to have the sperm there waiting.
also.. clomid tends to dry your cervical fluid, in some cases almost make it hostile which is impossible for sperm to travel thru. Alot of women on this board, myself included take the generic form of robitussin 'tussin' 2 tablespoons per day starting from the last day of your clomid pill up to ovulation... this loosens up all the cervical mucus and creates the egg whity kind you need to help sperm travel faster. Be sure to drink LOTS of water b.c it will only loosen up the mucus your body already makes.
Others have tried mucinex.. i'm not sure about that b/c i've never tried it but you might want to ask around..
Dont give up hope.. you will acheive your pregnancy! :-)

Points: 1,188.85 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,188.85 | Thank you!!! Thank you for your responses! Very encouraging! I've read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" from cover to cover, so I've been checking cervical fluid and other signs. I've not done BBT yet but will probably try this month (this one's so hard for me because my son tends to wake us up in the morning and I get distracted before I remember to take my temp!). I REALLY appreciate the Robitussin tip as well as drinking water (I'm really bad about that). I'm wondering if I should start taking pre natels too - I guess it can't hurt. My DH is also going to get himself tested next month b/c the nature of his job may hurt his sperm count (hopefully not - but we're trying to cover all our bases). Anway, thanks so much for your responses. I'm trying to stay positive for ROUND #2!!! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Jackie |

I haven't o'd yet this month(should be soon tho based on last month), so I still have hope. But I understand... I was so crushed last month when AF arrived... I was so sure that Clomid would be the answer. Here's hoping for this month! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

I had mid cycle u/s knew exactly to the day when I ovulated, had timed intercourse and we had a wonderful post coital test and still didn't end up preggers. I am now on my first round of injectibles. I was pretty discouraged that clomid didn't give me my BFP, but hopeful that the injectibles will. I guess the advice I can give is to be patient and keep trying until you find what works the best for you. I also have two sons, ages 5 and 3, who I didn't take any medicine to conceive??? Go figure.......

My Mood: Points: 5,302.20 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,302.20 | Brency- Thanks so much for the "tussin" advice... I did my first round of clomid last month and while I ovulated for sure, and was having regular timed intercourse, it just didn't happen for us. My progesterone was a bit low... at 7... so now with my second round of clomid starting this week hopefully it will be exactly what we need! I'm definitely going to try the tussin.
ParisGal- Others are right... don't give up hope! Yes you may have seen a lot of people that got BFP on first round but I have seen many many that weren't as lucky. Including me! My dr is doubling my Clomid dose this time to 100mg because she said that will give me better chances and also probably produce more progesterone, which was the only thing that was kind of lacking. Even couples who don't have PCOS or fertility issues sometimes take up to a year to get pregnant. I know for sure I did ovulate with clomid (I wasn't before) because I was using an OPK and got my positive and then the next day was when I was supposedly ovulating and then exactly 14 days later was when I got my period and this period was extremely heavy and bad cramps and my dr did a sonogram today and said the two large follicles that the clomid had produced... were gone... so good luck on your second cycle.. will keep my fingers crossed for you!

My Mood: Points: 3,611.15 Bank: 20,891.33 Total Points: 24,502.47 | I'm sorry this month doesn't seem to have worked, but even a "normal" fertile couple can take up to a year to conceive. So, technically on meds it makes us "normal-ish" To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. So it can still take a year to conceive.
When ttc my daughter I did 14 rounds of fertility meds, ovulated on all, and it was our third round of met/femara/gonal-f/trigger/IUI before we finally conceived. So take it slow, have patience and faith and it'll come in time.
This time we're on round 5 of meds (once af makes her appearance), and have had 2 m/c's, one conceived naturally and one on meds. So it's really a toss up what it's going to take.
Good luck!

I have timed bd perfectly and DH has a high s/c and still no bfp. We even did an IUI last cycle and nothing. There is absolutely no medical reason why we aren't pg yet it just hasn't happened. Keep trying though cause you never know which cycle will be the one.

Points: 1,188.85 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,188.85 | Thanks for the encouragement! Thanks again everyone. As I predicted AF came this morning with a vengence. I guess as far as my cycle went it couldn't have been more normal - which is nice for a change. Last cycle was the first time I had missed a period (which was when I was dx). They did an u/s and I had a golf ball size cyst on my left ovary which felt lovely. I didn't feel anything this month so hopefully it is shrinking or has gone away.
I feel pretty selfish complaining about not being able to get pg when I already have one great kid. It's been really sad because he's at the age where, quite frequently, he asks when mommy is going to have a baby in her belly. It breaks your heart. Of course, WHEN we finally do have a baby, he'll probably freak b/c he was an only child for so long. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Really, the reason we we waited so long to try for #2 is that I had such a hard time the first year my son was born (he was a tough baby and I had a really bad allergic reaction to the epidural which left me with itchy rashes for several weeks after the birth).
Well, I'm onto ROUND 2. I get two more rounds by my OB/GYN before she does some test where they shoot dye into me to make sure my tubes aren't blocked. Then, I get passed off to the fertility doctor which makes me a bit nervous. Oh well, one day at a time. Good luck to everyone else here ttc. I was in a similar situation. The doc was on his final (4th) round of clomid with me. I didn't ovulate on the 100mg cycle but I did on the 50 mg cycles. So the final cycle was supposed to have been a 150mg cycle but I only took 50.
I temped daily at the same time, took met, and got an OV WATCH and I truly believe that had it not been for the watch, I wouldn't have got my BFP. The watch lined up perfectly with my temps as far as the O date goes. The OPK was not accurate.
I wanted to get my BFP with my OB and not be referred so I tried the watch (I figured it would be cheaper than other invasive treatments) and got my BFP on my first OV WATCH cycle.
You guys should try it.

Blocked tubes will hinder any possiblity of pregnancy despite perfect Ovulation on Clomid. Don't feel too bad about wanting another child after having one.. Even secondary infertility hurts! It's in our hearts to desire to become mother. You will get your positive soon.
Melvin's wifey~ Wow~ Your follies were such a great size!!!!! I've never had follies bigger than 22mm! I can understand why you were so disappointed. Usually a couple of days after ovulation my dr has me take prometrium which is a progesterone supplement so when i go for my 7dpo progesterone check, my numbers are usually good.. Anything above 10 means you definately ovulated.. anything over 20 is excellent!!!
in the event i become pregnant then the dr will have me continue the progesterone supplements until 12 weeks at which time the placenta takes over.. Progesterone is soooo important in sustaining a pregnancy! Without it or very low levels of it and you are at a huge risk of something happening. Perhaps your dr will prescribe you some progesterone supplements?
Good luck to everyone trying to conceive.. Don't give up!
