My name is Kelle. I am new to posting so I will need your help. My husband and I have been ttc for over a year now. I have pcos. I am on Metformin(1000mg a day). Just got a prescrip for Clomid and Metformin.
Just got off the phone with the doc and she told me that my progestrone levels are 1.5. Does anyone have that same problem? She told me to start my first round of clomid. I have read that a low level like that you will not be able to get pregnant.
I want to hear what everyone has to say. Have any of you gotten pregant off of Clomid?
My husband had his sperm tested and he is 100% ok. My cycles range from 28-36days. I am on day 32 right now.
The Progesterone # that really matters is the one taken @ 7DPO, not before you start Clomid. That is the # that will say whether you O'd & if you need extra progesterone. Did she give you a scrip for Prometrium to use after O?

That number was taken on the 31st of August. I wasnt O ing... She did give me a prescrip for prometrium. I am waiting for her to call me back to tell me what to take.
It sounds like maybe she did that to confirm that you had not O'd yet. If it was higher (confirming O) she would have let AF arrive or BFP! Since you had not O'd, she Rx'd Prometrium to bring on AF, so you can start the Clomid.... just my guess.

DX PCOS April 2009 - Ovulation has occurred once in 20 months.
I agree w/ Amanda. I didn't know you hadn't had AF & was wondering why you even got a P4 already w/o taking Clomid. You would take Prometrium for AF to start, then take Clomid. After O you should go in @ 7DPO to check your P4 again to make sure you O'd & make sure your Progesterone is high enough.
Good Luck!

I just got off the phone with her to ask her what the levels were again and when to start taking the prometruim and clomid. I should be starting any day now. She said take the clomid on days 5-9 and the day that I stop taking clomid start taking the prometruim. Take that until I get a cycle or a positive pregnancy test.
I've only head of taking Prometrium after O. Do you chart or OPK to know when you O? If you get a + pg test, you should continue to take the prometrium to keep your progesterone up. She didn't tell you to come in @ 7DPO to make sure the dosage for Prometrium is correct? I would call back & ask to come in @ 7DPO for a P4.
Good Luck!

No, you should start it the DAY that you O. Not the day you stop Clomid. I don't know if you would O if you were taking Progesterone if you hadn't O'd yet (I don't think you'd O b/c your Progesterone would be higher but you need Estrogen to take over & make follies). As far as I know, Progesterone takes over once you O. That's why you see women take progesterone after O to support pg but never before O.

Traci, your right. If you start taking prometrium or any kind of progesterone before ovulation, it can and in most case will interfere with ovulation.
KelleB, is she monitoring you at all w/ ultra sounds, etc?

Hey guys.... I am so confused right now. I think the reason that she has me taking it before O is because I dont produce enough progestiron to O. I am going to call the office and talk to one of the nurses again.
I asked my DR twice take it the day after my last clomid pill? She said yes. Take it and we will do an HCG test. If your not pregnant then we will start all over again. NO she is not doing an U/S while on clomid.
Sounds like your doctor initially gave you Prometrium to induce AF. Once AF starts, on cycle days 5-9, take your clomid. (I suggest you take it right before you go to bed.) Do not take Prometrium until after ovulation is confirmed, which is generally 3 dpo via temping/charting. (On days I take Prometrium, I also take it right before going to bed...all 400 mg.) Without temping/charting, it is hard to confirm whether or not you actually ovulated. You could have just had a surge but did not actually ovulate. I am temping/charting and my doctor instructed me to start taking Prometrium on the 3rd day of my temp rise aka 3 dpo. I also have labs done @ 7 dpo to confirm ovulation. (Doctors generally refer to the 7 dpo labs as "cd 21 labs". So, my first cycle, I went and had my labs done on cd21. I had ovulated on cd 19 so the labs showed that I ovulated and a very low progesterone level but showed that I was not pregnant. Yes, 7dpo labs usually reveal if you are pregnant! Unfortunately, I was actually pregnant but miscarried probably due to my low progesterone levels. I was put on Prometrium the very next cycle! That's why you go for your labs on your actual 7 dpo and not just cd 21. ) So, if you do not already have a lab slip for 7 dpo labs, you should call your doctor and get one. That info would be helpful to both you and your doctor. (I hope I am making sense...lack of sleep!)
I swear....not only do we need to become doctors ourselves to fight infertility, we need to learn how to read our doctor's minds and learn their lingo! Crazy!

No they don't. They only confirm ovulation & if you have low progesterone.

My doctor told me that 7dpo labs "usually" reveal whether or not you are pregnant, and that she's had many patients who found out they were pregnant as a result of their 7dpo labs. I in no way intended to make it sound like it is a 100% sure thing. It's just nice to know that it is possible to find out that early.
